    A silly, and fun movie!

I bought his for my daughter when we found out she was going to be a character in the musical version of TMM last year. It is a strange, but fun movie, and she really has enjoyed watching it!

    Mediocre .

This attempt to cash in on the contemporary popularity of Julie Andrews should be entitled "Thoroughly Mediocre Millie " .Miss Andrews flounces through with weak direction , forgettable songs , floating chiffon, nonsensical asides to the audience , and a silly subplot with Beatrice Lillie which falls flat . Mary Tyler Moore ( along with others such as John Gavin ) is completely wasted ; she sleep-walks through a boring characterization . The only redeeming feature in the entire production is the brilliant , over-the-top performance by the indomitable Miss Carol Channing (she was even Oscar nominated at a time when they didn't recognize such performances). She magnificently transferred her larger-than-life stage persona to the big screen .It alone was worth the price of admission and then ...

  • Thoroughly Modern Millie

I love the movie. My niece's high school drama dept. recently did a production of Thoroughly Mod. Millie. My neice had a role in it. It was an amazing production. I saw the movie when it first came out in 1967, I think, and loved it. The DVD I bought on e-bay was brand new and sealed in plastic. When I received it, the DVD was loose in the plastic cover because the middle plastic thing that holds the DVD in place had broken. The DVD looked like it had some surface scratches in it but when I watched the movie it didn't appear to have any problems.

  • Thoroughly Modern Millie

I bought this travesty because I'm directing the stage version next spring and wanted to show it to my cast. What a huge disappointment! The normally wonderful Julie Andrews is completely miscast in the title role (where did that girl from a small Kansas town get that British accent?) Mary Tyler Moore plays Miss Dorothy as if she's on heroin. Worst of all, the woman who plays the evil Mrs. Miers has NO BAD CHINESE ACCENT?!! This is completely integral to the character. AHHHHHH! The singing is done primarily in voice over, with little 1960's alterations (poo-poo-de-doo) tossed in, and there is a blatant attempt by the director to show off what he learned at film school by throwing in every cheap segue wipe he can find. After watching 45 minutes with no discernible ...

Julie Andrews has the starring role as a young woman from the country determined to fit in with the modern women in the city. She sets out first to modernize her looks and then to find a boss whom she will marry. In the process, she meets and befriends Mary Tyler Moore, falls for an irresponsible but charming young man, and gets suspicious of her mysterious landlady. Nice family entertainment, complete with singing, dancing, and car chase.
