Advanced radio controlled watch of high quality.
This Citizen Eco-Drive CB5870-58L was better than I expected and at a decent price. The watch is comfortable to use and to wear on my 19cm (7.5in) wrist. You immediately see and feel that the watch is of high quality. The watch case in 316L stainless steel has both polished and brushed surfaces and has a diameter of 43mm (not including the crown). The hight is 12,5mm and lug to lug is 49,5mm. The finish throughout is of a very high standard for this price range. The only thing that detracts from the overall impression is the watch bracelet clasp, which seems a bit cheap, but does its job. The dial has a dark blue/purple colour, with a beautiful sun burst effect. The lume on the hands and hour markers is very good, but lacks a bit up to the Seiko standard. The watch has a sapphire crystal, but the anti-reflective treatment is unfortunately not the best I have seen, so Citizen has chosen to save some money here. This is an advanced Eco-Drive quartz watch, powered by Citizens caliber E660. The seconds hand hits spot on on the markers on the dial, indicating a quality movement. The clock is solar/light rechargeable, has radio-controlled time with reception from 5 different stations worldwide (US, Germany, China and 2 in Japan), with 24 predefined cities/time zones and with daylight saving time on/off function. Be aware that the signal range is approx.1500km from the transmitter stations. The watch shows the day and date, has a 24-hour display, perpetual calendar, alarm function, power reserve indicator and has a chronograph with a 60-minute counter. The watch's bezel, in brushed steel on top and with polished side, has a tachymeter scale engraved. I like that Citizen has chosen to use a dark background color on the date disc, which enhances the impression of quality and legibility.
In summary, I think this is a very good watch for the money, with high Japanese quality and many functions.
This is not the watch you buy just to be able to see and have an accurate time. The functions are controlled by pulling out and turning the crown and/or by pulling the two push buttons. I think this is the watch for the slightly more advanced user with perhaps more than average technical interest and who appreciates slightly advanced functions.
