I,ve been using my home built Geiger counter for a few years but it's crude compared to the GMC 320 + . I really like the data logging feature, wish I had it while I worked the X-Ray for TSA it would have been interesting to know my daily exposure. The Lithium Ion battery seems to run forever between charge cycles and it comes with both house and car charger so you will never run short in the middle of a prospecting trip. All settings are easy and intuitive and will readout in whatever standard you are most comfortable with. The Grandkids can play hide and seek, find the uranium rock in grandpaws house with ease so it is easy to use and seems fairly sturdy. ( Yes Grandpaw is a bit strange ) the only negative I can find is that the click volume can't be adjusted louder, but then Grandpaw is a bit deaf. The sound can be turned off so you can pop it in your pocket and data log all day without freaking people out It really would be a bargain at double the price, get one before the next Fukishima.Read full review

I did lots of searching and reading about the many Geiger Counters out there on the market. They range from old to new, cheap to expensive, and complexity or simplicity. I bought the GMC-320 because of the price and specs. This unit has a lot of "Bang for the Buck". This unit is simple to use, and has a long rechargeable battery life. As soon as you turn it on, it will show you the background radiation in Counts/second & uSv/hour. You can also select to show a graph images. This unit also acts as a Data-Logger. You can plug it into your computer, and with the downloaded software, you can view the data on a larger screen with a time stamp. I have seen some negative remarks about the unit's selector buttons, but I don't have any complaints about them. I guess if you handle this unit roughly, you may damage them, but hey, it's a delicate instrument, you don't want to drop this unit as it does have a delicate internal glass tube. I wanted to be able to detect any dangerous radiation in food or my home and surroundings, after reading about the Fukushima disaster. I am happy with this purchase. Read full review

Really convenient and fits in your pocket. Does measure some energetic alpha radiation. Measures ~300 cpm with an alpha source that measures 40,000 cpm on a "professional" Geiger counter. Very convenient when checking minerals for radioactivity if you collect radioactive things. I can't always bring my favorite, and very accurate Geiger counter. This detector has an alarm when the level gets high and the flashing light that is triggered With an event flashes green, but turns yellow, then red when levels get high. The beeping alarm goes off when the light turns red. Keeps going until you leave the radiation zone or remove the source. I reccomend this Geiger counter as a backup or for checking for radiation sources. I really like this Geiger counter, even if it's just a backup or for finding sources of radiation. Trust me, I'm a nuclear engineer.Read full review

Probably the cheapest price you can find! It works great for use when looking at radioactive mineral samples. I use this for personal use with my own mineral collection. Can't wait till I get the chance to test it in the field! Highly recommend if looking for a cheap Geiger counter!
