Four stars to be honest to my reviews. Carolyn Keene's most loved character - Nancy Drew - finally makes it onto celluloid in this 2007 movie. For generations of fans worldwide, the name Nancy Drew is synonymous with adventure. This young amateur detective has a mind of her own, a passion for solving mysteries and a reputation for getting into - and out of - some very scary situations. Emma Roberts stars as the resourceful teen detective, who leaves her friendly hometown of River Heights for the West Coast and enrolls at Hollywood High. There, her unique personal style immediately sets her apart from her self-absorbed, fast-living peers, especially reigning mean girls Inga and Trish, who can't quite figure her out but know that everything about her is different. Their less-than-warm reception might bother the average new girl in town, but not Nancy. She has more important things to think about - namely, a brand new mystery. Even though she promised her worried Dad (Tate Donovan as Carson Drew) that she'd quit the "sleuthing" business, it isn't long before Nancy gets a lead on one of the greatest unsolved cases of all time: the mysterious circumstances surrounding the death of famous actress Dehlia Draycott.Read full review
The Story was quite average and Nancy's tubby lovesick sidekick was totally irrelevant. but the 50's girl in the 21st Century theme was quite amusing although sadly underused and Nancy and Ned's romance was really very sweet. I thought Emma Robert's performance was spot on but she was let down by a script that couldn't quite find a balance between melodrama and humour. All in all a film for teenage girls more than adults or younger children. It was worth watching but it could have been so much better.
This is one great movie! I have played all the Nancy Drew games and have read the books, and I never expected the movie to be so exciting and funny! If you never heard of Nancy Drew, read the first book (Secret of the Old Clock) so you can kinda' get used to Nancy, then you can watch the movie, because in the movie, they don't really introduce the characters' names fast. ;) My whole family enjoyed it and the plot was extremely interesting. This is an ultimate come-back from the previous Nancy Drew movies, which the Nancy Drew actor didn't seem to match. This movie is much like Alex Rider: Stormbreaker. It's so cool! Nancy Drew lovers, you must watch this!
If you have a daughter like mine who grabs every Nancy Drew book there is, then you have to watch this film! Emma Roberts portrays Nancy really well, lots of confidence and very clever. In this film her dad tries to get her to stop sleuthing, but Nancy can't help herself, she has to find out the mystery of a star that lived in the house that they move into. She starts a new school and the comedy surrounding how different pupils and teachers react to her is hilarious! Corky is a really funny sidekick that falls in love with Nancy. Special features excellent! Well worth watching!
Always loved Nancy Drew stories, and is updated and very good. Also funny and Bruce Willis being in it was unexpected! Good film for chilling out and forgetting everything!
