    Replacement for old book that fell apart

    There are some pieces of crucial information in this cookbook that don’t seem to exist anywhere else - it tells you what temperatures to use when a recipe only says ‘hot oven’ or ‘medium oven’. That’s really important particularly when using older recipes by authors like Elizabeth David. Secondly, this cookbook offers suggestions and ideas for when a recipe goes wrong - also something you rarely see in modern cookbooks. Finally her basic recipes lsich as the one for making a batter also come with information on how to take care of a pancake pan - information which is really useful if you invest in well-made frying pans that won’t warp or twist if you use too much heat. Even though some of the recipes may seem dated the vast majority of them have stood the test of time - her Victoria ...

    my original book was falling to pieces, it was the first book my then fiancé bought me, its my go to book, so as we are coming up next year to our 50th wedding anniversary he saw my falling apart book and bless him sent of for the same book, I will keep it but still use my falling apart one.

    I first had this book in 1974 I found the recipe very good and everything you needed to know was in this book. I eventually gave my copy to my daughter some years ago and have been looking for another copy every since in so glad I found one again

    A common sense approach to cooking

    I have bought this recently as my original copy fell apart after about 40 years. I love it. I use it mostly for cake baking but it's full of helpful recipes and with clear instructions and illustrations, it's very helpful.
