About this product

Product Information

THE LATEST NOVEL FROM ROBERT HARRIS- chosen as a Book of the Year by The Times, Sunday Times, Guardian, Telegraph, Mail on Sunday, and Express WHAT IF YOUR FUTURE LIES IN THE PAST? _____________________________________ 'One word- wonderful. Two words- compulsive reading. Three words- buy it tomorrow. Four words- tonight, if it's possible.' STEPHEN KING 'A thoroughly absorbing, page-turning narrative.' SUNDAY TIMES 'Genuinely thrilling.' DAILY TELEGRAPH _____________________________________ Dusk is gathering as a young priest, Christopher Fairfax, rides across a silent land. It's a crime to be out after dark, and Fairfax knows he must arrive at his destination - a remote village in the wilds of Exmoor - before night falls and curfew is imposed. He's lost and he's becoming anxious as he slowly picks his way across a countryside strewn with the ancient artefacts of a civilisation that seems to have ended in cataclysm. What Fairfax cannot know is that, in the days and weeks to come, everything he believes in will be tested to destruction, as he uncovers a secret that is as dangerous as it is terrifying . _____________________________________ ' Harris takes us on a thrilling ride while serving up serious food for thought.' SUNDAY EXPRESS 'A truly surprising future-history thriller. Fabulous, really.' EVENING STANDARD 'The book's real power lies in its between-the-lines warning that our embrace of the internet represents some kind of sleepwalk into oblivion. It's a provocative, tub-thumping sci-fi of which H. G. Wells might have been proud.' DAILY MAIL 'Harris' latest work intelligently warps historical fiction and tackles issues of religion, science and the apocalypse in the process. As he flexes his imagination, you will be left pondering as often as you are page-turning.' HERALD 'A brilliantly imaginative thriller' READER'S DIGEST NOW PRE-ORDER ROBERT'S NEW THRILLER V2 - COMING AUTUMN 2020

The book arrived within a day or two. It’s a hard back copy and in very good condition. However, I won’t finish it. After reading the first 40 pages I didn’t like the direction the story was taking .

    Pandemic Prophecied!

Written in 1988, but so uncanny. It seems to have prophecied the current pandemic. Gripping storyline. Well written. This is the first Robert Harris book I have read, but it certainly won't be the last!

    Depressing .....

I always make a bee line for Robert Harris's latest books, just as I do for CJ Sansom. It is easy to read and I read It through to the end and afterwards I was left feeling depressed . So much so that I gave the book away. (I have his earlier books on my shel up to Conclave, and that got given away.) Well, the next book to read is V2. What will it be like? Who knows? Have just read very mixed reviews. Shall be definitely waiting till it comes down in price. Hopefully it won't be depressing and have a happier ending. I wish Robert Hariis would write once more like the compelling Cicero Trilogy. Would somebody please tell him to write a good thriller. I

  • Medieval England with a twist - mobiles and computers are dug up......

A fantastic book that was recommended to me. I really enjoyed the concept of post apocolyptic Britain with the mysterious emergence of mobile phones and plastic in an otherwise medieval world dated 1468, but a new date created from the recovery of a world destroyed by its own lifestyle. A warning to us all and excellently written by Robert Harris.

  • Interesting new book that needed better editing

Interesting, the story's readablilty rises and falls, not the best read, but different, can't say he's a top writer.

  • Not up to his normal standard

I actually have read all Roberts work. This is the worst. Shame as if I had read this first, I never would have read and therefore been so impressed with his other books.
