Griffin iTrip Auto Universal Plus FM Transmitter

It works with both my phone an Ipod with extra cord it also charges. Other ones I had had to keep searching for stations this one I found one station and it never had to be changed, Love this item

    • Top critical review

Works well only some of the time

Since my 2004 Toyota Sienna is far from up-to-date electronic media-wise, I purchased the iTrip to utilize my aging iPod. In general it works ok, but it has difficulty finding a frequency that is interference-free. And the positioning of the frequency-setting unit (I assume it's the transmitter) needs a clear shot at your radio aerial. I used it travelling mountain roads to a ski resort, but had frequent difficulty in urban and suburban areas.

    • Did I get a dud?

Who knows why, but the transmission power on this thing was aggravatingly weak. On select channels, I could hear the faint whispers of the song I was trying to play from my device (plugged in completely, volume up), but never was it even close to the quality I was used to in past products. A while back I had the iTrip that plugged right into the butt of your iPod, which worked as well as I could have expected, and after that I bought a Universal Trasnmitter from Coby and was extremely pleased with it. I only had to stop using it because the cord frayed so much, and these days the price of a new one is egregious. So I went with a Griffin, a reputable brand, but this thing just sucked. Plain and simple. I don't live in a terribly large town, and my last transmitter had no issues here, so I'm ...

    • Not good for large metro areas.

I read the previous reviews and learned that sound quality wasn't great. I bought it anyway because I am driving an old car without USB or aux jack input for my iPod. It would cost a fair amount of money to buy a new radio system or to have a jack put in. So I took a chance with this FM transmitter in hopes it would work. Sadly in major metro areas it is almost useless. If you manage to get a signal on one station it doesn't hold for long and you are scrambling to find another station. While you are driving this is very annoying. Also you really have to put your stereo in mono to get any usable sound. Stereo produces too much noise. So would I buy this again? Not for a major metro area where the radio stations signals are simply too strong and mostly taken. If I lived in a rural area with ...

    • It works

It works, it looks good though there are products just like this one that are more loose and don't have so much cables. The shipment was super fast, but the sound was the disappointing part even with changing the sound to mono. I can probably see it's old because in the instructions it used an iphone 4 as an example which says a lot, not all but a lot.
