By partnering with the Smithsonian Institution and by using the popular photographically-rich design of the DK Handbook series, the books [Smithsonian Handbooks of Birds of North America (Eastern Region and Western Region)] promise to catch the attention of veteran and novice birders. Smithsonian handbooks, Birds of North America, Eastern region

This is a publication that has been around for a while, and is my second copy, of the eastern region version. It is a reliable, go to, reference, for an amateur (in my case) "birder", with quality pictures, song and flight descriptions and color coded, seasonal habitat illustrations. My initial copy is worn and showing the effects of several years use, with notes and dates of sightings, throughout.

  • Super Reference Book

This is a super reference book. Birds of North America are pictured with bold colors and bright detail. Information accompanies the pictures as well to give insight to each of the birds habits, etc. DK books are some of the best for reference. This is a perfect example of why--they are easy to use and of great quality. It would make a great gift for anyone interested in birds.

  • Nice book, price okay, but flimsy binding (reissue - no tight cloth binding like the originals).

  • DK Smithsonian Bird Book

The DK books are excellent bird reference books. It's not really a field guide.
