  • Tug of Genius

Paul McCartney's near-perfect masterpiece, Tug of War, initially released in 1982, gets a remix and a remaster and is now available as a deluxe package with a bonus disc of demos and previously-unheard songs. There's also a "B-side" called Rainclouds. I saw the word "remix" and I gulped in panic and apprehension, but there's no need. The songs themselves weren't changed in the remix, you just hear more of certain instruments and vocals which were buried in the mix over 30 years ago. I call this a near-perfect masterpiece because there's only one flaw - the album closer, the "Ebony & Ivory" duet with McCartney and Stevie Wonder. They did do another duet called "What's That You're Doing" which is livelier, funkier and, to be blunt, cooler than something you'd hear the muppets do on Sesame Street. E & I was a sort of precursor to all those awful duets he performed with Michael Jackson. I mean, they all stink and they're all embarrassing to even acknowledge that you've heard them, let alone know they exist. Thankfully, Ebony & Ivory isn't as horrendous as the Mac-Jack triple-traipse down Sesame Street, but.....it's pushing it. It's a sore spot That being said, I recommend this album highly. Ebony & Ivory is the last track on the disc, so it makes skipping it that much easier. This can be compared to being glad you have an ingrown toenail instead of a giant ZIT in the middle of your forehead, at least no one can see that. I guess we should thank Paul and George Martin for that.

  • Veru good release

Paul mcartneys excellent 1980s release is better with a second disc of rarities. Of course tgere was a boxset too. Do I think this material was as great as his seventies output? No. But it was still very good. And he was having hit singles still as well.

  • Great Deluxe Package

This excellent album from Paul McCartney gets the deluxe treatment in this package. Arguable one of his top two or three solo albums.

Man, I love this album! McCartney was really on a roll. Too bad it ended after this record.
