You could buy a super thick wool ironing mat, but without the rubber backing there would be the risk of movement. I am not using this now as I have found that the vibration feet you get with washing machines does a superior job all up.

Interestingly, it came in a packet with the Janome name on it which I wasn't expecting as I thought it was a generic item. The staff said it came out of the same factory as the genuine Janome part. The shop was very easy to contact, and the sales staff were very helpful in giving advice about the part and how I could include another foot I wanted in the same mail out.
