As with many of the Criterion brand of discs this Blu-ray has many excellent special features about the making and history of the movie. Godzilla (Gojira) 1954 was a monumental movie in the history of giant monsters and its central character was the first atomic era movie monster. The disc has good subtitles that allows seamless translation from the Japanese. In addition, this disc includes the 1956 American release of "Godzilla: King of the Monsters" which features the added character of Raymond Burr in his pre-Perry Mason days. It is fascinating seeing the contrast between the two releases, the first being distinctly more anti-H-bomb than the latter. The play and features of the disc are good, with interviews from the surviving cast and crew as well as the true story of the radioactively poisoned Japanese fishing boat crew that partly inspired the movie. MORE Nostalgia than entertainment. Purchased because I grew up with the 'G'. Also purchased because Criterion has such excellent packaging design. Familiar and old school, as well as having some historic cultural value for Japan's story––but the story isn't all that engaging today.

The original japanese version and the raymond burr version as they were meant to be seen. Absolutely magnificent. Thanks so very, very much.
