About this product

Product Information

On an American military base in Japan, a new kind of vampire emerges: Teropterids. They are monstrous shape-shifting creatures that can only be killed with special swords. A mysterious girl named Saya is the last "original," the only person capable of dealing with the menace of these monsters. Posing as a student at the base's school, Saya races to hunt down the beasts before they turn an ordinary Halloween bash into a bloody massacre. Production IG, known for their pioneering digital effects, describes BLOOD: THE LAST VAMPIRE as a full digital animation movie, which means that even though many sequences were animated using pencil and paper, the artwork was digitally scanned. Inking and coloring were completed by computer, as were several other special effects. Hiroyuki Kitakubo was chosen to direct the project because of his digital experience (he oversaw the movie sequences in the GHOST IN THE SHELL game for the Sony PlayStation.) The film is also notable for the participation of screenwriter Mamoru Oshii, who helmed GHOST IN THE SHELL and has written a novel that takes place in BLOOD's universe. Despite its resemblance to BUFFY THE VAMPIRE SLAYER, BLOOD succeeds in creating its own gloomy, chiaroscuro world.

Beginning movie to lead to TV series anime, all very good to have.

I bought this anime movie to go along with the anime TV series that I have. Now I have the entire collection, I believe. Between this movie and the TV series. The disc and case is n very good shape. It played straight through very good. Showed up within estimated time of arrival. Only thing left to get now, is real life anime turned real movie. Then I will have it all.

  • Digital pioneer with great visuals and intriguing story

Short, but with tons of moody atmosphere, action, and interesting characters, it's an early (first in Japan) fully digital animated movie. Also has a 'making of' documentary of the film.

  • Great movie! Disc was perfect, slight damage to case

Case was little more beat up than I expected but the disc is in fantastic shape and it played perfectly! Blood is a very unique and cool anime movie that is worth your time! Note that they original was recorded in english and sometimes its a little wonky but still very engaging.

  • One of the best anime films of its time...

This film spawned a television series and a live action franchise...And there is no substitute for the original. This is easily one of the best anime films of its time and perhaps more. The animation surprisingly still holds up immensely well, being one of the first true digital anime films. The story is short and for those who like abundant exposition and lots of backstory may not find this as entertaining...as the writers like many Japanese stories focus solely on the story and events at hand at the expense of explaining everything that has occurred up to this point. Much of that is developed in the later series and film but are not required for viewing. The story moves at fast pace once things get going very quickly and you are more apt to want much more rather than have any genuine ...

  • Good short anime vampire movie

A good short anime movie. Would have liked it a little longer, but did enjoy it.
