Recently my wife and I ate at the Gifthorse restaurant and had a very pleasant if not exceptional experience. Afterwards, we wanted the cookbook as the dishes we experienced reminded us of how family dinners tasted years ago in the deep south. Traditional southern cooking with fresh ingredients is not as popular as it was back then. This cookbook has many classic southern dishes, cakes and other desserts that are not available in contemporary culinary literature. If you want the nostalgia of traditional southern dishes before the microwave ruined everything, the Best of the Gifthorse Restaurant is truly one of the best.
Ate there last weekend. Some of the best food I’ve ever put in my mouth! Check out at apple/cheese bake, and the fried biscuits! It was published in1993, so some of the products they call for aren’t anymore. I can spend hours just reading it.
