This 1983 follow-up to African Head Charge's startling debut MY LIFE IN A HOLE IN THE GROUND continues along the same path as its sonically dense, groundbreaking predecessor. The brainchild of British producer Adrian Sherwood (who also manned the controls of such dub projects as Creation Rebel and New Age Steppers), African Head Charge combines the playing of reggae session men with Sherwood's radical, highly textured studio treatments. Drawing on influences as diverse as Lee "Scratch" Perry, Brian Eno, electronic dance patterns and indigenous non-Western music, Sherwood constructs a pulsing rhythmic landscape through which deep bass lines rumble and disjointed instruments and percussive accents float. Bass and drum interplay is often the glue that holds these compositions together, such as on the hypnotic opener "Timbuktu Express" and the insistent "Depth Chart." However, Sherwood's ever-exploratory dub experiments occasionally venture into the stratosphere. The result is an almost psychedelic ambient music, such as "I Want Water," in which a tapestry of croaks, clicks and chimes conjures images of a primeval forest. "Bazaar" also evokes the sensations of its title. Like MY LIFEà , DRASTIC SEASON conjures challenging, deeply engrossing aural worlds that strike the listener as at once primal and futuristic.

Fantastic seller! My item took longer than normal to arrive but that's due to them sending me the wrong dvd. This vinyl is really reasonably priced and I love that it is one of the more unusual colours. It arrived well packaged, undamaged and looks as described.
