About this product

Product Information

From the streets of the Bronx to the hills of Ghana, this is the definitive history of hip-hop - now in mass market paperback. Hip-hop is now a global multi-billion dollar industry. It has spawned superstars all across the world. There have been tie-in clothing lines, TV stations, film companies, cosmetics lines. It even has its own sports, its own art style, its own dialect. It is an all-encompassing lifestyle. But where did it all begin? Who created it? How did it become such a phenomenon?Jeff Chang, an American journalist, has written the most comprehensive book on hip-hop to date. He introduces the major players who came up with the ideas that form the basic elements of the culture. He describes how it all began with social upheavals in Jamaica, the Bronx, the Black Belt of Long Island and South Central LA. He not only provides a history of the music, but a fascinating insight into the social background of young black America.Stretching from the early 70s through to the present day, this is the definitive history of hip-hop. It will be essential reading for all DJs, B-Boys, MCs and anyone with an interest in the history of America.

Fantastic seller! My item took longer than normal to arrive but that's due to them sending me the wrong dvd. Not to worry though, I contacted them and they arranged for the correct dvd to be sent out. My item has now arrived and the dvd was in excellent condition (brand new as described) and it was very well packaged. I would also like to say that the value for money is excellent. I highly recommend this seller, thank you so much! The issue with the wrong dvd was quickly rectified .

Book arrived safely packaged in perfect order. Item as described, new. Thank you Rarewaves Outlet. Fascinating book, great addition to my collection. Great price. Would recommended this seller. No communication needed with seller, so don't know what to rate with regards to communication (please dont take lack of feedback on this matter as a negative). Thanks again.

This vinyl is really reasonably priced and I love that it is one of the more unusual colours. It arrived well packaged, undamaged and looks as described. It arrived late, due to Royal Mail's Festive rush, but was dispatched by the seller really quickly. When I contacted them to ask where it was, they replied really quickly with a helpful solution. Such good customer service, so strongly recommend. Really happy with my purchase.
