Worked great with an old Chinese 'knockoff' of the Suntour freewheel hub.

I had a hard time identifying a Chinese JUNK freewheel on an old Kent bicycle. The Chinese JUNK freewheel was a a poorly copied Suntour freewheel. So, this tool not only works with the older Suntour hubs but also hubs poorly copied by the Chinese that may be present on some older Kent bicycles. The ParkTool FR-2 removed the Chinese "JUNK" freewheel and reinstalled a new higher quality Suntour freewheel hub on this old Kent bicycle. It was saved from the bicycle junkyard. The tool appears to be of very high quality. Works great if you have the older freewheel hubs, including Chinese JUNK hubs found on some Kent bicycles.

    • Nice freewheel removal tool at a great price

The freewheel removal tool will work well if it is used properly. First of all, removal of a freewheel with this tool and a large wrench will not work in most cases. The tool should be secured in a vice and the freewheel/wheel should be secured to the tool with an old quick release skewer. If not, the tool will strip and the freewheel will stubbornly remain on the hub. Destroyed one doing it the wrong way so please learn from my mistake. Moral of the story is "Don't use those pesky notched freewheels and go for the Regina or Shimano splined ones."

    • Good enough

First, this tool will nearly always now be used on very old freewheels, so less than ideal results should be anticipated. Second, Suntour's 2 prong design was never great. Third, at least for my freewheel, FR-2 prongs were slightly too fat and needed filing to fit. Fourth, even when secured by a QR skewer, the tool could and did slip sideways, somewhat damaging the freewheel, which was removed on second attempt without damaging the hub. FWIW, rust was NOT an issue for this hub and freewheel..

    • Does what it says on the tin ! .

The quality is second to none , it's difficult to write a review as it is only relevent to people who are into vintage / retro classic cycling . It is an essential tool for everybodies tool box who is into this era , i.e. before the era of splined freewheels . No other tool will do the job of removal of these items , without damage , but this one . It fits sever French and Italian made 'old' freewheels . An essential item ! , well made and it works ! , say no more .

    • Good Quality.

A bit tall as compared to older tools. Unable to secure axle nut to hold tool in place for that stubborn two prong vintage freewheel. The tool is well made considering that I went free hand with a friend and applied lots of torque. I would buy the tool again if I ever needed to.
