Funny trivia...this film was actually released in Germany as a sequel to Home Alone entitled Kevin's Cousin! Not to put you off or anything that it seems kinda cheesy - this is a film that you can either love or hate. I, for that matter, love it a lot. It's one of those not so well known John Hughes teenage/coming of age movies that was made right at the time when the Home Alone films were coming out. Call it a transition of sorts of John Hughes works - it's unique and peculiar enough (as well as funny too) to make it worthy of a cult following. It follows a 21 year old Jim (Frank Whaley) as he takes on a job as a night cleanup boy at their local Target store. He's much like your typical geek boy character and fills in the role that John Hughes usually gives to Anthony Michael Hall. Luckily, the night he starts his first day, Josie (Jennifer Connelly) the most popular girl in their school gets stuck at Target. She falls asleep in one of the fitting rooms while contemplating on shoplifting and gets locked up along with Jim - after hours. Instead of cleaning up the store, they raid the shelves and have fun talking about their own uneventful lives. The movie starts out great. It's just like the Breakfast Club, where they're stuck in just one place, make the most about it by talking and examining their own lives, and eventually hook up with each other. Then comes the Home Alone part, where the store gets invaded by two robbers and they think of a plan to escape and stop them from robbing the store. It's all fun, and you get really fabulous actors in this film. There's Frank Whaley, who's fantastic as Jim , the geek and town liar, who never wants to leave his parent's home. There's Jennifer Connelly, before being an Oscar award winning actress. She looks absolutely fantastic in this film as most male fans would agree (Jennifer in a tank top riding a coin-operated kiddie pony ride is one to watch for). There's also John Candy - the store manager and Dermot Mulroney as one of the robbers - before his fame as the best friend in "My Best Friend's Wedding". It has most of the components that I love in a movie - witty lines, great characters and absolutely wonderful actors that play them. Of course to top them all off, the movie has a great soundtrack. Though it has the feel of an 80's film, the soundtrack is hip-hop, boppy and very early nineties. If you're looking for something different, here's one for you. Don't expect to love it when you first watch it though - it's the sort of film that grows on you.Read full review
I dore the scene where Jennifer Connely was riding the metal horse and I enjoyed to see that scene again. Jennifer was a real beauty during the 80's and early 90's and it's one of the reason why I was interested to buy this movie. The second reason why I loved the movie it's because I was capable to identify myself with the struggle that the young man was facing in the movie, because I was facing the same issues during my early 20's. I am satisfy about my purchase!

Sadly i wanna give this movie 5 stars BUT this movie needs to be REMASTERED!!! for a Blu Ray release (Multi Region Please!) as the picture quality is NOT good, Looks bad on a 4K screen. I hope it gets a Blu Ray release one day as it is a funny John Hughes movie that has been overlooked and a favorite of mine staring a beautiful young Jennifer Connelly (before her vegan diet) worth a look only if your a fan. But not much better than my old VHS copy.

This is just a great all-around fun movie, with a very hot girl in it. Jim Dodge is a chronic liar with an unbelievable imagination - he's a kid who hasn't found his calling, but he sure knows how to act like he owns the world. The best part is with JOHN CANDY - Candy plays Store Mgr. of TARGET, and he mistakenly thinks Jim Dodge is interviewing for a high position in the company. It's hysterical how Candy's temperament changes when he realizes Jim Dodge is actually interviewing for "nite-cleanup boy". In the middle, the movie starts to be a little like Breakfast Club with Jim giving his first honest dialogue ever. I would never have expected Whaley to hook up with Connely in the end. Good ending too, for the first time his reality is better than all his past lies!!! The music in the movie is the best thing, though. I would have never known how great Soho is based on "Hippychick" - Nuthin on My Mind made me buy the CD. When i first heard Black Eyed Peas - I thought it was Betty Boo. Fergie sounds like Betty Boo - Who does "Where are you baby" in this movie. I Wanna Stay Home - by JELLYFISH - pure classic!!! Time to go and pump the pasties outta old Colleen Jackson, or do the subsonic tummy bump at 30,000 ft.. PS, it's hard to imagine it's Frank Whaley as the hotel attendant/killer in VACANCY, after knowing him from this movie!!!!Read full review
