Synopsis
(Book). The definitive history of the world's most famous 12-string electric guitar. When the Byrds recorded their hit version of Dylan's "Mr. Tambourine Man," they popularized a new sound in pop music: the electric 12-string guitar. Rickenbacker is the guitar maker that brought the electric 12-string to market and has since been almost single-handedly responsible for establishing what such a guitar should do. The California company gave one of its earliest 12-strings to George Harrison of the Beatles on the group's first tour of the United States in 1964. He immediately used it live and in the studio and showed off the sound of electric jangle to the rest of the world. This book tells the story of those heady days in the '60s, of the competitors who tried and failed to match the sound, and of the instrument's continuing production by Rickenbacker and use by many modern guitarists. Complete with high-quality photos and exclusive interviews with many of the 12-string's leading players, this is the best guide yet to the history of the sound of jingle-jangle., The definitive history of the world's most famous 12-string electric guitar. There was even a suitable line in the lyric: 'In the jingle-jangle morning'. Electric 12-string has been aptly described as a jangling sound ever since. Very slow to arrive (well past the estimate), but came safely at last in minimalist packaging. Customer service was polite when contacted regarding delay and an initial lack of tracking details. After communicating with them, the tracking eventually began to provide updates but it was a long wait. The book was a different edition than pictured but it was in a “very good” condition as advertised; also it was fairly priced. Overall, I am satisfied except for the very long wait.

This is an outstanding seller to deal with. Fair prices that are more than reasonable in this economy. The product is in better condition than described, a true value for my money. Packaged and shipped well shows seller has concern for the products he sells to arrive in excellent condition. The seller is friendly and communicates timely with his customers. I highly recommend this seller and would do business again anytime. Thank you.

  • Rickenbacker Electric 12-string book by Tony Bacon

This book is a must if you're a Ric 12 sting fan. With that said, I was a bit disappointed that it seemed just a bit below the level of quality of the previous books by Bacon, the Rickenbacker, Fender and Gretsch books. While very similar, it's not quite the same. I was a bit suprised on how little space was devoted to Roger McGuinn- you could almost write a book about McGuinn and his Rickenbacker. Perhaps at least a chapter would be in order? Overall, I'm glad Bacon wrote it and glad to own it, but I still crave more detail. I'd love some detail about repairs, weak spots, maybe some factory photos? Perhaps this is not possible with the way Rickenbacker is run, but it seems that these books would sell even more guitars for them.
