Personnel includes: John Lee Hooker, Jimmy Reed, William "Left" Bates, Quinn Wilson, Earl Phillips. Recorded in 1960 and 1961. Tracks 1 and 7 were recorded live at the Newport Folk Festival on June 25, 1960. All other tracks were recorded on January 4, 1961 at Universal Recording Studio, Chicago, Illinois. Originally released on Vee-Jay in 1961. Includes original release liner notes by Pete Welding. All tracks have been digitally remastered. From the vaults of Vee Jay Records comes an abundance of classic John Lee Hooker reissues, featuring original art work, running orders, and budget prices courtesy of the Collectables label. With the amount of Hooker material available on the market, some of it is of dubious quality, but you can't go wrong with these reissues. The Folk Lore of John Lee Hooker was released in 1961, combining 12 tracks of both acoustic and electric tunes like "Tupelo" and "The Hobo" (recorded at the Newport Folk Festival in 1960), "I'm Mad Again," "I'm Going Upstairs," and "Hard-Headed Woman." All of the Hooker Vee Jay reissues are recommended. ~ Al Campbell

Fantastic seller! My item took longer than normal to arrive but that's due to them sending me the wrong dvd. This vinyl is really reasonably priced and I love that it is one of the more unusual colours. It arrived well packaged, undamaged and looks as described. It arrived late, due to Royal Mail's Festive rush, but was dispatched by the seller really quickly. When I contacted them to ask where it was, they replied really quickly with a helpful solution. Such good customer service, so strongly recommend. Really happy with my purchase.
