Este libro aborda los principales aspectos comprendidos en la voladura de rocas con taladros de gran diametro, utilizados principalmente en la mineria a cielo abierto. Discute el metodo de perforacion rotativa por ser el mas empleado en la ejecucion de este tipo de taladros; para despues hacer un estudio de los principales agentes de voladura que favorecieron el uso de diametros cada vez mayores, especialmente en la explotacion de minerales metalicos. Son analizadas las propiedades del macizo rocoso que influyen en la determinacion de la carga especifica asi como en el desempeno de los trabajos de excavacion por explosivos. Se discute la influencia del diametro de taladro en la determinacion de parametros de diseno. Finalmente se muestra los principales aspectos ambientales resultantes de la voladura de rocas, para despues proponer una metodologia para su gerenciamiento, visando su optimizacion. Esta metodologia esta basada en el ciclo PDCA para gestion de procesos y operaciones en programas de mejora continua.
