A Hollywood Classic
This was/is a great movie first watched as a young child in black & white on a little TV in the sixties, watching it again in colour with my young grandkids on bigger screen who loved it, they will not watch a b/w version of any kind so this really works..

Arsenic and Old Lace - Cary Grant Frank Capra Classic Now I think if my husband was writing this review he would probably give it an excellent rating. He has a collection of over 600 classic movies. You have to have a certain sense of humor to rate this an excellent, so I am going with good. I think this would be called dark or black humor. The story is about two sweet (albeit crazy) old ladies that live in Brooklyn & have a habit of poisoning men, thus the name Arsenic & Old Lace. Gary Grant plays thier newlywed nephew who upon his arrival to tell them his good news discovers that this family's basement holds a murderously funny secret. These funny old ladies have a nutty nephew that thinks he is actually Teddy Roosevelt. After they murder each man they have "Teddy" go to the basement & ... Arsenic and Old Lace - Cary Grant Frank Capra Classic Now I think if my husband was writing this review he would probably give it an excellent rating. He has a collection of over 600 classic movies. MARVELOUS MOVIE THAT IS FULL OF NONSTOP FUN! LOVED IT!!
You can't help but to laugh. I knew two ladies who were quite simular to the Brewster sisters, only they didn't have bodies in the basement. At least I don't think they did. Anyway, you can't help but to love this movie! Especially if you are a Cary Grant fan, like my husband and I are. Mr Blandings Builds His Dream House is another with him in it and that too is marvelous! This movie,Arsenic and Old Lace, also shows how you can make a truly enjoyable film without so much as a single bad word, one naked person or being political. It's just plain, good ole American FUN!!! The way we used to have fun and still can, if we really want to. Please, see this film and make your children see it. A classic Halloween spoof!
This movie is an excellent example of Capra's talent and with a great cast ibcluding cary Grant and Peter Lorre, it is a movie I try to see at least every Halloween! Cary Grant's two dear Aunts have a secret, and his Uncle in the house believes he is President Theodore Rosevelt. The tale occurs on Halloween, and when his Cousin from boyhood appears-on the lam from the law for multiple murders-another threat appears. I highly recommend this film to anyone who enjoys comedy or Halloween!
