I think it's only fair to warn you...
Sure, anyone can tell you how the Violent Femmes will blow your mind the first time you hear 'em, and they would certainly have reason on their side. All the songs on this CD are fantastic. My only qualm, for those individuals who prefer to listen to one album from beginning to end in the original order, is that the bonus tracks aren't very well sequenced. "Gimme the Car" just isn't a proper album-closer; I wouldn't object to its being shuffled in somewhere on the second side. Same with "Ugly." This is a moot point, I know, but whenever I hear "Gimme the Car" at the end of the record it tends to sound unfinished. That's me spiel. The one and only classic Teen Angst CD--
I always thought that one of the best things anyone who ever worked with adolescents could do is listen to this album. As a teenager, there were plenty of times I wished my parents had heard it! Then, it seemed like they would know everything I was going through. At the same time, though, listening to it then seemed oh-so-deliciously rebellious. (On a side note, it wouldn't have hurt them all to watch Rebel Without A Cause, either.) The album brilliantly captures everything floating through a teenager's head, from love to hate to sex to melodrama...and does it accurately, and with some catchy tunes. This is the CD with all the songs that made the band famous in a few alternative circles. Later, the band went through a "born again" transition that seemed oddly different from their ...
