Buyer was very helpful when selling with lots of advise, but quality of product was disappointing, then the buyer tried to renege on refund when they were not around to accept the return back from Royal Mail… overall disappointing experience

That you were not happy with the quality of the lens was disappointing, but you were refunded in full once you returned the lens, as per standard eBay policy. Because it took Royal Mail more than one attempt to deliver (which is fairly common) does not mean anyone was trying to renege on your refund, especially since refunds are guaranteed under the eBay terms of service.
