So, my mistake - in the photograph, the sand timer is clearly shown as broken, and indeed it was. Pity the seller didn't mention that - but in truth, I can use my phone just as easily to time. The packaging was A+ - bubble wrap - and other than the sand-time being quietly not mentioned, this whole transaction was an A+ in my brain; a happy customer.
