Synopsis
REVISED EDITION: Many unseen photos of Joi and an additional Afterward chapter. Plus two never seen photos of Joi and Rachel. "Joi Lansing: A Body to Die For colorfully chronicles personal and intimate details of the last four years of the talented '50's "blonde bombshell" star's fascinating life. After three decades of successful TV and movie appearances and Vegas singing stardom, Ms. Lansing died far too young at just 43. Though her funeral was attended by luminaries of the day (Frank Sinatra sent a huge floral display), her light went out relatively unceremoniously. Always just on the verge of "making it big," Joi packed them in with standing room only in Vegas, but when the curtain came down and the audience was gone, who was she? Sadly, the one relationship where she was loved for the sweet, gentle woman she really was, the friendship that might have given her the strength to finally cross the finish line for that one moment of glory for which she had run since she began in show business as a little girl of 14, was ended at her death from breast Cancer in the arms of her dear friend, "Rachel." "Author Alexis Hunter ("friend/baby sister") was the only person who really knew Joi and knew how she struggled with a suicide-obsessed self-image and deadly drug problem after being a child star at MGM where "uppers" were a common way to keep the kids working 20 hour days. "Stunning black and white photos of Lansing by Maurice Seymour, the era's Superstar Photographer, make this book a collectors dream." -Kate Porter-AveryJoiLansingaBodyToDieFor.com, "Joi Lansing: A Body to Die For colorfully chronicles personal and intimate details of the last four years of the talented '50's "blonde bombshell" star's fascinating life. • Interesting story

Joi Lansing was an actress from the 50s and 60s. While she wasn’t top billing, she was talented and beautiful. This book, written by her lover, gives a different perspective on Joi, Hollywood, and other things. Joi Lansing died of cancer which she battled for several years . The author suggest her illness was the result of Joi’s attempts to preserve her beauty which put her in the hands of quacks who destroyed her through silicone injections.

  • A great read about a very talented actress and performer!

When I ordered this book I had thought it would be a biography of Ms. Lansing's life from birth to death. As I read along I found it was a complicated very involved love story covering the last four years of her life up until her untimely death in August 1972. She was gorgeous and very talented! What a singing voice she had! This book is well worth the read as the author brings the story to you through her own words.

  • Warmhearted Memoir

Alexis Hunter has written a gentle and warm memoir of Joi Lansing. This life affirming story of love and loyalty written simply and with complete candor was obviously a work of love . What must have been a painful journey for the author has resulted in a beautifully honest book with warmth and graceful humor. I thank Ms. Hunter for sharing her lovely story and gratefully give a five star review to eBay!!
