Being someone who is interested in peroid pieces from the 1960s in particular, Mad Men's premise appealed to me about those men who worked on Madison Avenue at the time as an avenue to creative types to have rich, prolific careers in putting their creativity to use. At the heart of the series is one of these men, Don Draper, who on the surface seems to have it all (great job, respect of his peers over/under, a beautiful wife, two adorable children, many women on the side) yet somehow cannot help that all is not well with him from within. The angst of Don--as well as those around him--make this an exceptional series NOT to be missed!!!! Though set in 1960, the knawing which permeates Don's living can be seen in the prism of anyone who adjacent issues. Also, 1960 was still very much a (white) man's world--but not quite for long as this series will also touch upon as the episodes unfold. Change is in the air which we the viewers can see in retrospect that the characters, set in the moment, just cannot. With 16 Emmy nominations, including Best Drama Series, Best Actor (Jon Hamm, who plays Draper at the heart of this fine ensemble piece series) and Best Supporting Actor (John Slattery, better known as Gabrielle Solis' late mayoral husband, Victor, on Desperate Housewives. Slattery plays one of the partners at Draper's advertising firm.), not only is Mad Men a critically-acclaimed series unto itself, but also leading a probable shift towards the tastes of modern television viewers finding out just how wonderful basic television original series can really be. The show airs on AMC with its second season starting July 27, 2008! I bought this first season set on Blu-ray to get the most out of the Mad Men viewing experience. I must say that, besides the great service I received from my seller, the set is a serious bargain!!!!! The picture and sound are solidly fine (the former stronger than the latter) and the commentaries are rather informative. I have liked this series all along since Day One, 2007. Yet now, in viewing this fine First Season set once more in the privacy of my own home via Blu-ray, my appreciation of this well-crafted series has grown even more--so much so that I just cannot say enough abot it as evidenced by the length of this review. Check Mad Men out for yourself and see if you will be Mad about it as I and may others evidentially are!!!!! :)Read full review
I watched the entire available series on DVD and loved it. Except for a very few anachronisms, the show is right on in terms of time and place. Now I am enjoying it on Blu-Ray. Great picture and sound. Beautiful design, well-written -- even brilliant in spots (like Don's presentation of Kodak's Carousel slide projector at the end of Season 1), and beautifully acted (John Hamm deserves every award he has received). The Blu-Ray discs are also beautifully executed, right down to the 'glass with clinking ice-cubes' sound which enhances the menu selections in Season 3.

had season 2 and wanted season 1. don't know what else to write. this is nuts, nuts, nuts. have i used up 100 characters already????
A very catchy series to watch. Once you start, you can not stop watching it. It is amazing to think that just may be that is what those "Ad Men" did all those years ago. The acting is very good by all the parties played in the series!
I bought this because I got season two on sale at my video store for a buck a disk ($4). It was so much fun I bought all the season's on Blue Ray. We're 69-70 so my wife and I really enjoyed to time transport back to the 60's.
After winning th 2nd emmy for best drama series, I wanted to see what I had missed. Good series, sometimes a little slow, but that was my era.
If you like history even a little and really good tv, then this will rock your socks. With season five being delayed, this will help.
