We bought this because we'd borrowed it from the library and loved it so much, wanted to reread and reread. My son, who's 8, has done just that. It's a great story about a single dad and his son and the scrapes they get into trying to poach some pheasants. As with all Roald Dahl books, it's fabulously written, very funny at times and a great story. We live in the Chilterns, not far from where Roald Dahl spent much of his life and some woods and farm lanes around here remind me a lot of this book. Unlike some Roald Dahl works, Danny the Champion of the World is plausible, rather than set in a fictional world inhabited by giant peaches, giants and glass elevators. Perhaps that's why it's my favourite Roald Dahl, though I think the kids prefer the whackiness of some of his more wildly imaginative books. My son favours the BFG.Read full review
I absolutely loved this book when I was little. Its still great, now I am reading it to my own children :) Highly recommended.
This book was the number 1 favourite of my son, and now I have a copy for his son, it has become his favourite as well. The family love Roald Dahl's stories.
