In this work, the band members, producers and witnesses to these sessions describe how the album was made, the gossip, and the sex, drugs and rock and roll., The Rolling Stones were the "bad boys" of rock and roll, kings of controversy. Coming off a slew of '60s hits, the band was looking for a new identity as it entered the '70s, one that would renew its hard-rocking image. Tax exiles from their native Britain, the group gathered in a chateau in southern France, the temporary home of Keith Richards, to record the seminal two-album set Exile on Main St. It was both a culmination of all the band stood for and a beguiling hint of how rock and roll could be stretched to include everything from acoustic country to tough RandB. For many, it stands as the Stones's single greatest statement. Now, the story of how this album was made is told by the voices of those who were there. Book jacket.
