About this product

Product Information

The MTV UNPLUGGED video includes tracks never aired during the broadcast, backstage and rehearsal footage, and outtakes from the taping. To witness the exact moment that the idea of the successful '90s Kiss reunion was hatched, just pick up a copy of the 1996 home video MTV Unplugged. Three-fourths of the way through, Ace Frehley and Peter Criss join Simmons and Stanley for the first time in 15 years or so for four Kiss classics. But prior to the reunion, the early '90s lineup of the band (Simmons, Stanley, Kulick and Singer) perform inspired acoustic versions of obscure gems, some performed for the first time in concert. The quartet had been touring for two months as part of a traveling Kiss Convention, where they would take the stage to perform an unplugged set and participate in a Q&A session with fans. A pool of around 35 songs could be chosen, and the strongest appeared on MTV Unplugged -- "Comin' Home," "Plaster Caster," "Goin' Blind," "Do You Love Me," "A World Without Heroes," "See You Tonight" and "Sure Know Something," among others. Also featured are a few songs that weren't included when the show first aired on MTV (such as "Got to Choose) as well as the ballads "I Still Love You" and a string-enhanced version of "Everytime I Look at You." Then, what every Kiss fan was waiting years for finally happened: the reunion. The original lineup cranked out killer versions of "2,000 Man," "Beth," "Nothin' to Lose" and "Rock and Roll All Nite" (with Kulick and Singer joining in midway through). Also added are behind-the-scenes segments, plus a sample of the aforementioned Kiss Convention tour. Kiss' MTV Unplugged is one of the better unplugged episodes to hit the network's airwaves. ~ Greg Prato
