After years of relentless conquest, the Empire of Rome now covers much of Europe. Quintus (Michael Fassbender: Inglourious Basterds, Hunger) is the sole survivor of a Pictish raid on a Roman frontier fort. Inspired by his allegiance to Rome, he marches north with General Virilus (Dominic West: The Wire) and his legendary Ninth Legion, under orders to wipe out the Picts, starting with their fierce leader Gorlacon (Ulrich Thomsen: The World Is Not Enough). But when the legion is ambushed on unfamiliar ground, and Virilus taken captive, Quintus faces a desperate struggle to keep his small platoon alive.
