    Why the older or V1 type Seagate Back up Plus beats the newer design

    While the internal hard drive and software of the newer Back-up models are still the same and operate as such, this older model or V1 has a breakaway base. This break away base can then be used with any brand of hard drive and is also great for SSDs as it has it's own power supply. I use this base to clone hard drives (again of any brand) in such cases where a laptop only has one hard drive bay or when I'm uncomfortable opening a computer and changing Bios settings to recognize a second HD. When using the base (also known as Seagate Desktop Adapter) to clone I have found that I have to use 2.0 USB ports as the 3.0 USB fails during the clone process. It takes about 30 minutes to clone a 40GB hard drive when using the Desktop Adapter. The same clone takes 15mins if done internally or without ...
