The best part of this DVD is the full song footage of early Marilyn Manson and the Spookie Kids performances. The creators had the odd notion to put facts in periodically to scroll across the screen. Not terribly annoying, the crawlers might be enlightening to the newest of MM fans. A radio interview was played over scenes from the 1932 film "White Zombie" starring Bela Lugosi. An interesting choice, it was actually pretty creepy. I enjoyed the interview, of course, though would have obviously preferred video footage for this format. Worse was their idea to play the song "Sam Son of Man" over old news footage on the Son of Sam killings. It was sheer filler. Further, the song is available on the CD "Birth of the Anti-Christ". A lot of footage was strangely shrunk, a smaller square within the screen. And there are exactly zero special features. There isn't even a chapter selection. On my cheap player it just started over again when it ended. It is an undoubtedly inferior offering among a plethora for fans of Brian Warner (aka Marilyn Manson). I would much more highly recommend "Demystifying the Devil" than this production. That DVD also has the early footage and a lot more personality. Long-time girlfriend Missy Romero has much more screen time in an inciteful and entertaining interview, just to name one aspect. I did give "Lord of Darkness: The Early Years" a second viewing just for the purposes of this review, otherwise I'll stick with "Demystifying..." for sheer viewing pleasure. In fact, I immediately watched it again afterward to put a better taste in my mouth. Unless you are a hardcore fan, don't waste your money on this. In fact, start with his 1999 autobiography "The Long Hard Road Out of Hell" if you haven't read it previously. I'll revisit it in a heartbeat versus spending any more time on this DVD.Read full review
Marilyn Manson has been my favorite singer/ inspiration since I was 11 years old. I am now 33. This DVD is an excellent addiction to my collection. I watch it weekly.
