Definitely buy for the kids - but don't let them play with it!
This is unusual in toy speed boats in that it really speeds! It weighs 580g – half of that is motor – has a sharp prow and goes like an amphibious bat out of a slightly damp hell, so it must not be used near swimmers or ducklings. That means close parental supervision. Don’t be disappointed if it doesn’t seem to work: there is no ON/OFF switch, and instead it has two sets of safety contacts that disable the control board if one pair is not kept shorted out by contact with water. It will also only link to the remote control if the latter is turned on in the 5 seconds after the battery is connected with the safety contacts shorted out. It’s a bit tricky the first couple of times, especially as, after the 5 seconds is up, the remote control unit indicates it’s connected – whether it is or ... This is unusual in toy speed boats in that it really speeds! If you are going to use it in other than absolutely flat calm conditions, having to set it up with the works uncovered risks getting water in the works, so it may be worth holding a wire across the top pair of safety terminals while you get it running and replace the waterproof cover – but beware the prop. Another thing to bear in mind the first time you try it, is that the steering servo horn may not be fitted in a perfect postion. Check that you can turn the rudder equally to each side using the remote control unit. If not, undo the screw holding the horn in place, pull the horn off and replace it in the right position – which is the position where the full range of movement on the servo turns the rudder equally to both sides. (If you need to do that at all, at least you will never have to do it again)

Purchased this boat for 9 year old grandson to use in Junior competition with a model boat club based in Pinjarra WA. Easy to control, great boat speed and battery lasts OK for 2 x 3 minute races. Self righting feature a much needed capability as with 3 boats running side by side around a rectangular course, the odd bump happens, and spectacular flips occur. Club is using the specs of this boat as the standard for competition entry. Waste of money
Within 5 minutes boat lost steering and had to go rescue it found it to be full of water emptied and dried got it working again only for it to do the same thing 2 minutes later Very disappointed for the price would expect better
