About this product

Product Information

Need for Speed: Shift represents both a literal and figurative changing of gears for EA's popular acing series, as primary development duties have been transferred from EA Black Box to Slightly Mad Studios, and the gameplay moves from arcade-style action to physics-based simulation. Everything in Shift is designed to convey a sense of realism, from the cockpit view and disorienting effects of crashes, to the more than 70 licensed vehicles and 15 real-world courses. A 3D heads-up display mimics the movements of a driver's head, while depth-of-field effects blur the screen to simulate speed, inertia, and G-forces.

The "Career" mode finds players participating in traditional circuits, sprints, time trials, drifting events, and model-specific races. Finishing on the podium or completing specific in-race tasks earns players stars that help unlock more events. Each event contributes information to a "Driver Profile" system that records the way players behave on the track, branding them as either precision drivers or aggressive drivers, and keeps track of how "good" players are with a "Driver Level" ranking. Gamers can take their driver level all the way up to 50, unlocking new vehicles, accessories, and garage slots at ever step. Need for Speed: Shift supports both local and online multiplayer racing.

Product arrives on time and in good condition. Seller is a pleasure to deal with and is upfront about damages likes dings and such in their descriptions of the products if there are any. This seems to be more and more rare with Ebay product descriptions as most sellers want to just tell you to look at the pictures and determine any damages from those alone.

Overall game is great, but controls are not great.

Used to play this game a lot when I was younger, I remember enjoying the different kinds of races and maps so I decided to buy this since I lost my original disc. It's as good and looks as good as I remember, but the controls are the loss point for me. I don't remember the steering, acceleration, and braking being super jerky and late to respond. Even after pretty much getting rid of the dead zones and turning the sensitivity to10, it still doesn't control that well. Maybe nostalgia is clouding my memories, but overall the game is still great.

  • Need for Speed Shift

I decided to buy the game because I really seem to like the racing genre and the NFS series has a pretty good history. I have only had the game for a day now but I already have a pretty good idea of what I like and dislike about the game. The positives are that the graphics are fantastic, the driver's view is the best from this angle I have ever seen, the races are competitive, the variety of cars available is fairly good, the upgrades are everything you would expect, the sound quality is really realistic. The negatives are that there is basically no tutorial so it is a little difficult getting into the game, especially the non-race styles (i.e. drifting). The game's loading times could be better, they seem to take a long time. There is a type of race in which you race 1 on 1 with a ...

  • Good racing experience, great car and upgrade selection.

I bought this game in the hope that it would beat other Need for Speed games I have such as Carbon and Hot Pursuit. I like the selection of cars and available upgrades in this game better than the previous ones. However, the only major downside for me is that there is no freeroam mode outside of the formal racing. This is definitely an easier game to beat than Carbon or Hot Pursuit, but this is not a setback for me because I'm sure that the great selection of cars and events will keep me occupied for a long time. 4 out of 5 stars is generous for this game. If I could, I would rate it somewhere in the 3.5 star range. This is a good buy if you can get it for cheap.

  • Shift is serious!

Great game! I am a racing game enthusiast and have wanted this one for a long time. This is a really good simulation racer. It does have a lack of cars when compared to the Forza series...but the cars it does have are pretty cool and very detailed. especially the interior views! Another thing I liked, is the sense of speed you get while driving fast. The screen begins to blur a bit and the driver gets this kind of "tunnel vision" thing going on. It adds a really nice touch to the overall experience. In the end I definately recommend this title to any racing gamer who wants a simulation feel to their game.

  • Need for Speed SHIFT

The game is fun but slightly on the "arcade" side of things when compared to games such as Forza 3. If you are in the mood to advance rapidly through vehicles then you can't beat it. The selection of cars is limited and some of the cars and stats on them do not accurately mimic life conditions. For instance, NFS finally puts Hondas in a game but doesn't do enough research on them. The Honda Civic Si is almost faster than the S2000. The S2000 should be a highly competitive in many of the racing tiers, however it is not and is only truly useful in the drifting scenarios. All in all its a fun video game and the sounds and physics of the game are done extremely well but if you are looking for a more drawn out racing form then look elsewhere.
