About this product

Product Information

Brian Helgeland's historical sports drama/biopic 42 relates the historic 1947 baseball season in which Brooklyn Dodgers general manager Branch Rickey (Harrison Ford) decides to sign the first black Major League player, Jackie Robinson (Chadwick Boseman). Although Robinson faces ugly, vicious racism from other clubs, fans, and on occasion his own teammates, Rickey encourages him to not fight back. By following that advice, Robinson allows his remarkable athletic talent to speak for itself, and soon the first-year player becomes one the most popular players on the team, eventually securing the Rookie of the Year award. Christopher Meloni and Hamish Linklater co-star.

    Chadwick Boseman

This guy first starred in Get On UP. He was awesome playing James Brown. Now he is playing Jackie Robinson, and is doing the same, an awesome job with this character. It is sad how talented black athletes were treated back then, and how Jackie endured to be accepted as a player not a black man.

  • 42, An Important History Lesson

This is an excellent film for baseball lovers or anyone who wants to see just a glimpse of "how we got from there to here". Though sanitized for general consumption, there is enough in the script to get a small taste of what Jackie Robinson had to endure so that others would be able to follow in his footsteps. I find it humorous that Jackie and his wife had more education and breeding than the palookas on both sides of the lines who jeered them. I also liked that there was a range of reactions from the players and that some players showed growth and acceptance over the timeframe depicted (some never did). The movie as a whole is very enjoyable, and kept me engaged from start to finish (though I am not a baseball fan). I would recommend 42 for all to watch. It provides a valuable lesson ...

  • A great non-Sports Sports Movie

First Great Role for Bosman and he nailed it. One of Ford's best non-Indiana Jones roles as well

  • A number retired

A "sort of true story" but engaging. Anyone who likes baseball would surely like this movie about a great baseball player
