This book is just fantastic and should be read by anyone who plays the clarinet and who has an interest in finding out about its famous players. Jack Brymer was, for me one of the greatest clarinet players ever. Not only was he an amazing player, he was a true gentleman. His recording of the Mozart clarinet concerto with Sir Thomas Beecham has gone down in history as being arguably the best of all. It was very much Jack Brymer's flagship. Along with Jack Brymer's book 'The Clarinet', part of the Yehudi Menhuin series of titles, "From Where I Sit' is equally easy to read. It is almost as if Jack was simply sharing his experience of the profession over a pint with his close friends, it is seemingly that friendly! He had a great sense of humour. I had the privilege of seeing Jack Brymer rehearse the Mozart Concerto in London back in the early '80s and went on to meet him several times after. This book is a gem and reminds me just how amazing he was both as a player and a fellow human being.Read full review
