About this product

Product Information

More than forty years after its cancellation, the BAC TSR2 is still a controversial aircraft. Years ahead of its time, it was abruptly cancelled by a new government when flight testing had only just begun. Built to a demanding RAF requirement, the BAC TSR2 was a revolutionary low-level strike aircraft able to deliver a tactical nuclear weapon at supersonic speed and low altitude to evade enemy radar. This fascinating new book describes in detail the aircraft, its history and the events of its cancellation. Many unseen photographs and diagrams support the detailed text, which benefits from extensive research in the BAC archives and access to newly rediscovered material. Topics covered: . Background to the requirement, and competing designs . Development and production . The flight-testing programme . The full story of the cancellation and its aftermath . Unbuilt variants . Detailed specifications AUTHOR: Damien Burke gained an Honours Degree in Software Engineering, and has worked in software ever since from manufacturing logistics support to military systems. Gaining a private pilot's license in 2005, Damien is also a keen aviation photographer and his work is regularly published in aviation magazines. SELLING POINTS: . An important new work about the controversial low-level strike aircraft BAC TSR2, its history and the events of its cancellation . With input from ex-BAC employees and unprecedented access to BAC archives, the detailed history of the project is revealed here for the first time . Covers the development and production, the flight-testing programme and the unbuilt variants . Superbly illustrated with over 40 photographs and diagrams, many in colour and many previously unpublished . Damien Burke caught the aviation bug as a child living in Gibralta through the Cold War and his interest progressed to author and keen aviation photographer ILLUSTRATIONS 215 colour & 232 b/w photographs

As a fan of the TSR2 this book is one of the best references you could ever want. A thicc book, its 1 cm wider and 1 cm shorter than A4, and a full 1 inch (~26mm) thick so it could double up as body armour... Well researched and written, this book details the troubled development of this fabled aircraft and its sad, controversial end. As ever, Books etc. packed the book nicely and delivery was fast, and a great price. I would always recommend them for your (new) book needs.

    • Very informative book

I bought this book as I made some parts for the TSR2 which I still have. From my engineering days. What I like about this book is the facts regarding problems with the different sections of the aircraft and how these were resolved. The information written in this book covers many aspects of the design, the flight trials and the sad demise of this advance aircraft of its time.
