In this remake and updated version of the 1965 THUNDERBALL, James Bond, who has been primarily teaching for the last few years, is quite happily yanked out of semiretirement to deal with the deadly SPECTRE organization's newest plan for the destruction of the planet. (The Bond story line mimics Sean Connery's semiretirement from the role, which he had last played in 1971's DIAMONDS ARE FOREVER.) Agent Number 2, also known as Maximilian Largo (Klaus Maria Brandauer), has managed to steal two cruise missiles armed with nuclear warheads, and Agent Number 1, Blofeld (Max von Sydow), has threatened to explode them in areas with large populations if a huge, and almost impossible, ransom demand from the NATO countries is not met. The film features an excellent gaming battle between Largo and Bond, as well as stunning turns by Barbara Carrera and Kim Basinger.

    The actual Thunderball.

    The original Thunderball novel was about old Bond nearing retirement and dealing with aging in his own unique way and proving that he was still relevant. When they made the movie with young Bond it didn't make sence and couldn't follow the book. This movie is the correct version of Thunderball with old Bond. I'm amazed Sean was nice enough to do this.

    Excellent 007 movie

    This 007 movie doesn't start like previous Bond flicks theme music looking through the barrel of a gun and yes it does have a similar plot like Thunderball but definitely has major differences than Thunderball. Sean Connery does an excellent job in his final James Bond movie before Roger Moore takes the part.

    Disappointing! Not a movie to buy and call part of your Bond Collection.

    Certainly not exactly as the other Bond movies as the Bond theme music throughout the movie is missing due to the movie done outside of the normal Bond criteria. Very slow to get going and after a painful 30 or so minutes it picks up only to then disappoint and slow to a tedious crawl once again. This is not a Bond film! It has no clarity of Blu-Ray quality and excessively grainy on 60" LCD Tv. Not a good addition to sit within your Bond Collection. Give it a miss.
