Synopsis
Built in 1952 at Newport News, the SS United States wasdesigned from the outset to be the fastest ship afloat.Taking the Blue Riband on her maiden voyage from New Yorkto Southampton, she made the voyage at an average speedof about 35 knots. In 1969, she was retired from serviceand laid up and has spent the last forty years abandoned. Her interiors were stripped out and sold in the 1980s andshe has lain at a berth in Philadelphia for much of thelast twenty years. Sold in 2009, it is rumoured that sheis off to the breakers' yard soon, which would be a sadend to one of the finest ships ever built., When Sheldon Russell Curtis told this story to his daughter, Rosa, she kept every word in her heart and was to retell it many times. I will tell it in Sheldon's own words as nearly as I can. He was wounded in a fierce battle and left for dead in a pasture somewhere in Georgia when Pinkus found him. Pinkus' skin was the color of polished mahogany, and he was flying Union colors like the wounded boy, and he picked him up out of the field and brought him to where the black soldier's mother, Moe Moe Bay, lived. She had soft, gentle hands and cared for him and her Pink. But the two boys were putting her in danger, two Union soldiers in Confederate territory They had to get back to their outfits. Scared and uncertain, the boys were faced with a hard decision, and then marauding Confederate troops rode in. In this Civil War story passed from great-grandfather to grandmother, to son, and finally to the author-artist herself, Patricia Polacco once again celebrates the shared humanity of the peoples of this world., A powerful and heartwarming look at a moment in American history--from master storyteller Patricia Polacco, author of Thank You, Mr. Falker . This Kindness Edition features discussion questions at the back of the book to help guide readers through conversations about its story and message! Perfect for classrooms and more! - j***k (1521)- Feedback left by buyer.Past 6 monthsVerified purchaseYOU WILL NOT BUY FROM THIS SELLER! I was ROBBED Absolutely sneaky, greedy , horrible seller. Knowingly sold me a cracked CD. I received it & it was obviously cracked all the way through. I sent clear pictures, and then I reviewed the original photos in the listing, and you could even see the crack then. So after I alerted the seller of the obviously defective CD, I was refused a refund. The CD was described in the listing as excellent condition lol it looked like it had been run over by a truckReply from: cwcollectibles-more- Feedback replied by seller cwcollectibles-more.- Feedback replied by seller cwcollectibles-more.Buyer was offered to return the item. Buyer wanted to receive a refund for the item without return. When buyer was asked to return the item for a refund they proceeded to get very nasty in messages and stated that if I did not refund them the money for the order immediately they would leave negative feedback (which is what we are seeing). This is feedback extortion and against Ebay policies. Also, all he buyer had to do is return the item and they would get their refund,
