Additional Information
From Stefan Schwartz, the director of SHOOTING FISH, comes this romantic-comedy period piece inspired by real-life events in 18th-century Ireland. Byrne (Daniel Lapaine) and Strang (Matthew Rhys) are two young and handsome noblemen from wealthy Irish families in search of equally wealthy brides who can guarantee their financial futures. Unfortunately, the laws of the time dictate that family fortunes pass on to the eldest sons, leaving both Byrne and Strang penniless and unable to attract the rich society ladies they desire. To remedy the problem, the lads form a clandestine "abduction club" whose modus operandi is to kidnap young heiresses and persuade them into marriage. The solution seems promising until Byrne and Strang target the headstrong Kennedy sisters--beautiful and intelligent Catherine (Alice Evans) and her feisty younger sister Anne (Sophia Myles)--resulting in a swashbuckling slapstick comedy where the lines of conquest and romance aren't quite what they seem.

I love my new carebear! Good communicative seller, sent 1st class and item is exactly as described. 🧡 only thing is there is a slight pen mark on his nose which the seller didn't specify but apart from that the bear is in lovely condition! Super securely packaged and sold at a great price. Thank you x

  • the abduction club

Ireland, the 1780s. As the younger sons of wealthy aristos, Byrne (LaPaine) and Strang (Rhys) are heirs to precisely nothing. Thus the dashing duo have no option but to join Sir Myles' secret society and hatch a plan to schmooze the rich Kennedy sisters with a view to abduction and, perhaps, marriage. Although the outcome's never in doubt, this enjoyable period rom com-cum-road movie on horseback still has plenty going for it. A galloping pace resolves the plot twists before they become irritating, and the four likeable leads are served by a nicely tuned script, the inevitable sparring sounding modern and fresh rather than tediously ironic. It's well shot, too: the Irish countryside never looks less than lovely despite the dreadful weather.

  • Excellent movie! How come this is not more well known!!

Great acting, script and chemistry! Well worth the buy and watch. Anne & Strang particularly make a great couple even if they aren't the main characters. Knox is just a creepy character!

  • fANTASTIC
