  • HDD Failure

Pros: Nice looking. Small size. Color Screen. Line-In and Microphone Recording. Decent Capacity for the price. Cons: Hard Drive Failure. Overheats when charging. Non-Standard Sync/Charge Cable. Summary: I bought a used Samsung YH-820 off of eBay for fairly cheap. The unit worked when I received it, so it was sold in good faith. However, not even two weeks after I bought it, I began having trouble booting the unit. All that I got were some clicking sounds of the hard drive spinning and a message that read "Device can't HDD initialize. Device will be turned off." This problem worsened for about 2 days, then the thing just died. After searching the internet for this error message and reading more reviews on the YH-820, I found that this is a very common problem, which cannot be fixed ...

  • ok device but not the best on the market

bought one but paid way too much, its nothing more than an IPod look alike, but nowhere near the quality for the price, yes 5 gigs actually 4.5, and then you have to use Napster to put music on this thing, and the napster software, Now a paid site , will try to trick you into getting a subscription in which you Dont' need to put songs that are already on your harddrive to the device, and transfer is not all that easy, like I said I think its becasue of the Napster software. I wish it was a little easier to use.

  • Been almost flawless for me. Upgrade your firmware!

I purchased this MP3 player because I was looking for a little more storage for some of my MP3's. I didn't want to spend too much money either, so when I saw a refurb model for $119 I jumped on the chance. Most of the problems people are having can most likely be attributed to not having the proper firmware. Until I got the right firmware I had maddening amounts of problems just getting music on the device. Keep in mind that the firmware on Samsung's site is NOT going to help. I must recommend that the first you do is Google Plays For Sure, and you will get the site that has the most recent firmware, which also improves the battery life tremendously. Then, using WMP 10, file transfer is very painless and VERY fast. You can even set it up so that you can automatically sync your playlists ...

  • Waste of time and money

As long as you don't get the upgrade (firmware), you should be fine. I had this mp3 player for 1 day. I downloaded some tracks on it. Sound was great as well as the JPEG viewer! Later that day, I went to napster to look for some music, I found out that they had a "to go" subscription service available. This samsung yh-820 was said to be compatible with the "to go" service recently released. In the case of this particular player, it must be upgraded to be eligible for subscription services. I upgraded the player only to find the software had an error, which made my player inoperable. I called customer service, and they no longer make these mp3 players, so they could not offer repair on this device. Please heed my advice as well as other reviewers of the yh-820. DO NOT BUY!

  • Samsung YH-820 (4 GB) 5 GB MP3 Player

I had read alot of negative reviews for this player, so I wasnt sure what to expect when I got it. BTW Got it at a good price. So far it has done everything it should with no problems. A big complaint I saw was it locked up and had to be reset alot. I think I found the reason. Upon disconnecting from your computer, you should use the diconnect hardware feature. I havent had a lock up since I started doing the disconnect properly. Dont just pull out the USB cable. A bit slow on boot, but no big issue. Great storage space. I use it for storing pictures and music, along with some needed files. Nice unit! Belt clip is a slacker. Careful not to drop it. Enjoy!
