  • A Truly Great Novel

"The Good Earth" is my all-time fovorite novel. I first read this novel about fifty years ago, and fell in love with it. The setting is in China and based on the author's real life knowledge and experiences. The author's power of expression makes it easy to gain real insight to life as it used to be in China. For me, this is the best book Pearl Buck wrote. I forgot my surroundings; and I was there in China, seeing in my mind's eye life that was unlike anything I could have imagined, taking to my heart a people I did not know, and feeling gratitude for the author and her great gift she used to share with us. I love all this author's books, but this book is very special for me. My mind was opened to a new world. That is a wonderful gift. The copy I bought is a special gift for my ...

  • a Forgotten classic

"The Good Earth" is one of the best books I have ever had the opportunity to enjoy. It gives illustrations of pre-revolutionary China and history of a family. It a hard book to put down because I was wraped up in the book and story. Ms. Buck lived and work in China for many years and understand the Chinese character as only someone who accepted by the people whom she wrote about in the book. It a good book for anyone who wants to study pre-revolutionary Chinese history or wants to read a great book about the nature of people. The characters are round and have flaws and weaknesses.

  • The Good Earth by Pearl S. Buck

This is probably the most heart felt novel I've read in a number years, the wretchedness of the time and failing of society left an honest farmer with all that he knew, and that was the Land/his few paltry acres of soil he loved with all his heart and Soul, and a womans Love he failed to see until it was only the agony in recognizeing that he fully understood it. If you have questions about life that we live today this is a must read book !!!
