Having 20 years Sobriety myself I liked the honesty, genuine sharing and of course laughs from this book. One thing people who are in recovery learn is how to laugh again and Craig Ferguson certainly has that gift. True down to earth story of him coming to America to visit an Uncle who worked here one summer when he was a bot and then vowing to come back as an adult. But there were many years of trouble and twists-some self inflected as he will share with honesty before he was able to. Great book for anyone who has been in recovery or not because it shows you a man who made mistakes and learned from then and then did better-more than he would have ever imagined. Came from a working class family, did honest hard work etc. and experienced all classes of life before coming to be a TV host. Still honest to his routes and does not forget his blessings. Not a fake person like many TV Movie stars become. True rag to riches story and inspiration plus makes us all proud to be an American, something too many of us take for granted if we were lucky enough to be BORN here. Highly recommend-yes there is strong language-one remaining bad habit of the many he gave up but shows he is human and honest. Hilarious yet thought provoking and hard to put down. Has lots of actual family pictures also. Highly recommend to anyone unless they are unable to get past the rough language he grew up with and still uses occasionally!Read full review
Excellent book. I highly recommend it. It is a great read , very informative, very funny, very serious, and unbelieveable in places. This man is a genius. He is from Scotland but came to America and took the citizenship test and became an American. He is a great actor/ writer/ comedian/ late night talk show host. I love to watch him at night and I devoured his book. Please pick it up and read it. You will not be sorry. I also bought the book on CD . Craig narrates the book and it is so relaxing to listen to. I recommend it highly. Lisa
Even if you aren't a Craig Ferguson like me, you should find a lot in this book that most can relate to on some level. The comedic skill of Mr. Ferguson shines through, yet I feel it is a clear look through a window into what makes this man tick. I give this book a high enough recommendation as the rating stops at excellent, if there was a rating for Totally awesome I would select that.
I watch Craig Ferguson's show all the time, and love his honesty and PERFECT comedic timing, HAD to get his book. I was VERY impressed. He opens himself up and lets you see ALL! It's an excellent read and I highly recommend it. He shows his sense of humor and intelligence in a way that is very refreshing. READ IT! You won't be sorry.
The book is an incredible read. Quick, interesting, funny, & a great peek in to the real life of Craig Ferguson. I would highly recommend it for anyone experiencing an addiction problem as it shows how Craig pulled his life together & became a success. I have a lot of respect for Craig Ferguson after reading his story.
Ferguson whose wit and personality make him highly entertaining is very candid about the addictions which clearly would have ended not only his career but his life had he not sought help and reclaimed his soul. His book is funny, sad, happy and inspiring. Well worth reading.
So it's possible to lead an arrogant/deceitful/slothful obnoxiously drunken life then (in later life) pull a 180-degree flip. No maudlin musings here; just clear-eyed accountability, style/dignity/grace and laser-sharp wit.
The story was a eye opener, had no idea Craig was that into drinking & doing drugs. Was caught up in his story and couldn't put the book down and was so happy with nhow he ended it. Bought the book because I am a Craig Ferguson fan since he was on the Drew Carey Show. It is a good read and highly recomend it.
After reading this book, I said to myself: "boy, I wish I knew him in person." His rags to riches story is quite moving. He opens his heart and shows you what it looks like inside, warts and all. You can't help but love him in the end. I have even more respect for him than I did before. Go, Craig, go!
I am not much of a reader, but really Craig's sense of humor, as well as his intellect. I have really enjoyed reading his story as he tells it, and can even hear it in his accent while reading. With great introspection and story telling the book is a great read and well worth a read.
