I bought this game because I'm a big RE fan and I missed this one way back in '02. While the graphics are amazing, the archaic controls and extreme difficulty make it very frustrating for the casual player. The game uses the "classic" style of Resident Evil controls, which are quite terrible by today's standards. Add to that the game's incredible difficulty level (even on the easier setting it's harder than any of the previous games) and you've got a recipe for frustration. Seasoned RE players will surely love the challenge though, and I imagine that is who Capcom had in mind when they made the game. If you've never played a Resident Evil before, I would not recommend this game as a starting point for the series. The far superior Resident Evil Zero delivers the same classic gameplay with many improvements that make it much more enjoyable.Read full review
Can't say enough about this brilliant game. A true milestone. Still looks and plays beautifully after all these years. Sure, you can get the HD version on modern consoles (which i did and loved), and the graphics are even more mind blowing, but there's nothing like playing the original version on the GameCube and experiencing how Capcom pushed the GameCube's hardware to it's absolute limit. And, as an installment in the Resident Evil series, it's rivaled only by Resident Evil 4 when it comes to gameplay and atmosphere, but still surpasses it in narrative, characterization, and visual storytelling (although RE2 comes pretty damn close-- dated graphics, bad voice acting and all). Simply put, Resident Evil on GameCube is an absolute must.

This game is by far one of the best gamecube titles available. The graphics far surpass any game for gamecube to date and the movie like cut scenes with voice acting adds to the drama and horror very well. With the help of the graphics it is a very terrifying game, I had trouble sleeping the first few nights, its like controlling a horror movie. The controls and prerendered backgrounds (prerendered meaning the camera angles are predetermined apposed to real-time camera angles that follow the character) take a little getting used to but once you get the hang of them it makes you wonder why every game isnt designed like resident evil. The genius behind prerendered backgrounds is it allowed the designers to put alot of detail into the backgrounds which makes the graphics absolutely stunning and creepy. If you do have trouble with the controls dont be discouraged, the controls in the game are like a tank's, a forward button and then the control stick is used to pivot on axis. I recomend control setting C, its what I have used and I beleive it is fairly simple because I was able to beat the game twice using it and didnt die the second time at all. Point and fact, I read about the game from doing some wikipeding (my verb for going on wikipedia) and decided to give it a try and it was so amazing I can wait to buy the next installments.Read full review
As I have mentioned in my other reviews I am a big resident evil fan ever since I played the orignal Resident evil 1. I was surprised when I found out that capcom was going to remake the first Resident evil for the gamecube. Overall the game was a lot better than I was expecting it was very scary at points and the zombies changing in to crismon heads was a great feature. The puzzles where also great and very challenging which made the game all the more enjoyable. Tha addition of the Lisa Trevor storyline was also brilliant and the new parts of the mansion was great. However one of the most impressive things on this game where the graphics which where brilliant. The game however dose not really have the feel of the original game. So thats why this game gets 4 out of 5 from me. Overall this is still a great game which you will be able to play for a long time with out getting bored. I hope you found my Review helpful. This game is a remake of an original Playstation classic. Though the location and basic story are the same, this really is a new game-no more cheesy live action cut scenes, though still not stellar, the voice acting is much improved, and there are a few nods to the original thrown in to satisfy the die-hard fans. Everything was redone in this game from the ground up, not simply making the same game with better graphics. New puzzles and areas have been added as well as an expanded plot to make the story more emmersive, more like later games in the franchise. Though this is a good game it is not without it's faults. On thing that was great about the original was that the two main characters (Chris Redfield and Jill Valentine) had different gameplay, not vastly different, but different enough to make it worth playing as both, in this version however the gameplay is nearly identical for both characters, lessening replay-ability. But the pros definitely outweigh the cons, the story is good, the puzzles are decent (in that uniquely Resident Evil way) it flows well, and isn't too short or too long. This game is a good retelling of a great classic, and should be in any Resident Evil fan's collection.Read full review
