Golgo 13: Top Secret Episode is a very, very difficult game to enjoy. Which is not to say it's a bad game or anything, but it definitely has some issues. First off, if you don't know anything of the character of Golgo, it's best to just skip the game entirely, as you would have quite the time trying to enjoy the events. If you are a fan of Duke Togo and his baffling exploits, then you'll probably get some enjoyment out of this game if you have a lot of patience and are willing to accept that this game is simply unfair a lot of the time. The gameplay is divided in to several different types of modes, which does a lot for the game really, as I don't think I'd have even bothered with the game if it was comprised of any one particular type. These modes are: 1) Side-scroller: you simply walk from left to right (or right to left) in a 2D plane, occasionally entering buildings or moving up and down streets. There is some fighting in this mode, and it is pretty aggravating, sometimes. Enemies tend to crouch under all your gunshots, and dodging their fire is difficult with Golgo's amazingly floaty jump. 2) Sniping section: Somewhat few and far between, but really quite simple. Hit a button to zoom, aim with the d-pad and fire. 3) Diving: Another side scrolling section, but with freer movement, as you are swimming. There are enemies in this, but usually they just end up zipping by you, since they're remarkably fast. 4) Helicopter: Similar to a very low-end R-Type or other side scrolling shooter, pretty straightforward, better hope you have some fast fingers to shoot things down with. 5) First person shooting segment: You are in first person, stationary, shooting at: MIGs, Helicopters, men, submarines, scuba divers, submarines, missile launching vehicles, tanks, and the final boss. Pretty easy until around two thirds of the way through the game, at which point it becomes impossible to not almost die. 6) First person maze: This is where that patience comes in handy. You have to navigate though seemingly endless identical hallways, filled with trap doors, laser traps and the occasional falling wall or soldier/ninja/samurai. These are very tedious, though the game's instruction book does contain some very, very handy maps. Overall, completing this game is just about impossible, as it's quite long, and though there is a password system, if I hadn't checked an FAQ, I'd have no idea how to access it. From a non-gameplay standpoint, the game is somewhat interesting. The story is convoluted and actually pretty strong and Golgo's character is pretty well translated. The other characters are pretty irrelevant, but that's quite the case in all the Golgo mediums I've ever encountered. All in all, if you're a bit of a masochist, you may very well enjoy this game. And if not, you should probably play just to get a laugh when Golgo gets some from the informants. 6/10.Read full review
Golgo 13 is not, I repeat, NOT for everyone! The graphics aren't bad, but the gameplay feels very stilted. I mean you can continue as many times as you want, but there's a LOT of talking scenes, which frankly I'm not sure a lot of gamers have the patience for, especially in these days of pressing a button to skip those scenes. The enemies in the game can duck and shoot at you. But you cannot! This is a problem because unless the enemy gets up and walks towards you, you can't hit them!! So a lot of the time you have to either run away(while jumping) or just take the hits and continue. Honestly though, I'm not sure how much replay value this game has. In all likelihood you'll play through it once then never pick it up again. It's interesting to look for nostalgia factor, but other than that, it's not worth checking out.Read full review

I like the story about this title it is a classic. I purchase this item as a collectible as it comes in it's original box and all paperwork included.I would recommend this item.
This is a unique game, with 3 modes you'll play there and there during it. Even if it's challenging a lot to avoid shots from the enemy, the continue feature is there to make you able to go through the game. Somehow addictive to push start and start again each time you're game over...
