I have been an well trekked hiker for years, and the kids are now old enough to take on some more challenging trails. We all love the Whites, and I was looking for some type of guide that would offer not only a selection of longer day-trips, but also note some of the interesting geologic and ecologic features in an area. These are the things that will keep a kid interested over a 3, 4, or 6 hour round trip through the woods, and an understanding of what you will find helps alot. This guide does all of that and more! Already used on an couple of lower-elevation trips, and looking forward to more strenouous hikes now (the kids and girlfriend, I mean). VERY IMPORTANT!: Before hiking anywhere in the White Mountains (lowlands too), make certain you have an appropriate trail map of the area with you! This book only has vague sketches for maps, and especially in this region it is important to have an appropriate trail map AT ALL TIMES! These are available in several different types from different sources.Read full review
