Not making Dracula horror? Horrible mistake!!!
Let's just say the trailer for this film was all over the place but showed some pretty awesome scenes until this fist shaped swarm of bats slamming into the ground which completely lost me but I was eager to see it which I did and now I'm eager never to see it again in my life. Universal Studios back in the 1930's to the 1950's was known for their incredible horror films which superb acting and set design which was one of the reasons I was psyched to hear that Universal Studios was making another Dracula film even though I knew it would never be able to compare to "Bram Stoker's Dracula" directed by Francis Ford Copola and released by Sony Pictures but I was psyched nonetheless then I saw the trailer and was put off a bit but then I saw the film and wanted a stake through the heart. I ... I purchased the BluRay because I'm a completionist and wanted to make sure I didn't judge the film too harshly but I didn't. The story is "To protect his family and people during a time of intense conflict, Vlad III submits to a vampire, sacrificing his humanity in return for monstrous power". There is a scene where Vlad is testing out his powers and it's like a god damn superhero film, the whole film has Dracula as the good guy which doesn't work at all, he rarely sucks anyone's blood, he has stupid superhero powers, the film is lacking in blood/gore which is strongly needed in any vampire film and worst of all the characters are Transylvanian but all have British accents!!! The actor playing Dracula, Luke Evans does the best he can with the material but he is no Dracula actor but Charles Dance was excellent and manages to be creepy as the Master Vampire despite a small role. The BluRay however bad the film is looks great and is one of the nicest and clearest 1080p BluRay transfers by Universal Studios that I have seen. It is phenomenally clear and very detailed with bright and vibrant colours. There is very little film grain and video noise so it enhances the video quality a lot. This film does sound beautiful though with it's DTS-HD 5.1 audiotrack that gives your subwoofer and home theatre systems an exercise as it is loud and clear. It really sounds phenomenal during the battle scenes and it just makes you want to turn it up and wait for a noise complaint. I would say buy this if you want to show your TV and sound system off but you're better off using "Life of Pi" if you want to impress family, friends or neighbors. Skip this film and don't spend money on this when you can buy "Bram Stoker's Dracula" for cheaper and get a better film.
