This is a hell of a pedal. It's very straightforward to operate and you'll never be bored with the amount of effects and presets you can play with. The range of sounds at your disposal makes this a great deal and it's metal body is built to last. I only give it four stars because I play a telecaster and some of these effects are a bit temperamental with single coils and unless you put the pedal through an amp head you loose a lot of natural tone from your guitar. Keep that in mind but really I cannot complain at all about this device. Whatever you're looking to sound like, it has it!
I bought one, used. Since I'm in a progressive band and need to rely on effects thought about this as a good start since I don't normally use a lot of pedals or prefer individual pedals. However, to try new sounds and combine several this was a great deal for the price / feature balance. Some things I've noticed: People complains about the distortions: yes, you will never emulate a big head/combo but you can get pretty decent distortion by tweaking the presets. Wah: yes, it is not a cry baby but it can also be modified a bit... or you can add a separate pedal. So far so good.
Obviously the unit is pretty beat up- it's old! But it's also an extremely rugged construction. Still works perfectly. If you expect it to sound like a massive stack and melt your face off you'll be disappointed, but it's cleaner tones are beautiful. I play for church and so I need a sound that will sit nicely in the mix and have a lot of variety- this unit does just that. Its power is in the variety it offers

I bought this because I had owned a GT-3 once before and knew that its sounds were quite good but was unaware that I could assign a Tap Delay using the control pedal. I understand that the effects are Analog based which gives it a warmer sound. I can't say that I dislike anything about it. I am able to assign Tap Delay to the control pedal as I mentioned, which matches the modern worship songs which we do at church. I can also assign Overdrive, Distortion, Harmonist or any of the effects to the control pedal option. This opens the door wide to possibilities. This pedal is comparable to the sounds in the best Korg models including the ax30g and ax3000g, and this gives me more control over patches while playing live. I have used many in studio and in live performance and have settled on this Baby as my mainstay. The Autowah gets really funky with just a little adjustment of the knobs, and creates a sound like the Filtron. You can assign Chorus before or after Delay as well as juggle the order in which pedals are arranged and it sounds Human, not mechanical. A Synth setting is built-in to create the sound of a violin or flute, that's extra nice. The volume pedal can be assigned to control Wah or gain level of Preamps and Overdrives, Turn It Up! Finally to wrap it up, the Noise Reduction works Perfectly and does not intrude on the Live sound.Read full review
its a nice pedal for what I paid. $90.00,,however the power supply that was sent to me was not the right one. But you can pick one up for $15-$30. I still haven't sat down with the instructions and gone thru all the options.

Why is the Boss GT-3 still so popular? Is it because it's built like a tank? Maybe. Is it because its so easy to program? Could be? How about because even now, 20+ years later, it still sounds AWESOME! Okay, the interface is a bit dated and it doesn't have usb, but what it does have, YOU WANT!!! So, what's it got??? ANALOG OVERDRIVES and DISTORTIONS, BABY!!!!! Yes- analog. As in just like real stomp boxes. Couple that with lush time-based effects, amazing reverb, and a bazillion effects all neatly packaged into an indestructable tank of a box. WINNER!
