Seems to be a nice DVR--can't tell about all functions, since you have to have TIVO sub. to check all the features.

Works Well, But Comcast hates it
I'm glad I don't have to pay for Comcast's crappy DVR, but there are compromises. FCC regs require comcast to let you use your own device, but they don't have to let it work -well-. All of the basic features work fine, but Comcast OnDemand, and other similar features are broken. Not Tivo's fault, and their products and support are excellent.

This is absolutely the best DVR you can buy!
The TiVo is by far the best DVR available. The Premiere is no exception. I have been suffering with my cable companies DVR for the past couple of year and I have been through 5 of them during that time. The TiVo in comparison is just more reliable and user friendly. One of the things that I forgot about the TiVo is that when you are fast forwarding through commercials and you see the show you are watching and you push the play button, it automatically goes back a few seconds taking into account your reaction time. In most cases you don't have to rewind to pickup at the beginning of the show. The Premiere unit offers Netflix, Hulu Plus, YouTube and Amazon Downloads. I can only offer opinion on the Netflix and Youtube interfaces. YouTube - I connected a cordless keyboard to the back of ... The TiVo is by far the best DVR available. The Premiere is no exception. NetFlix - I'm mixed about the Netflix interface. I also own a PS3 that I can view Netflix on and the TiVo interface with Netflix is very limited in comparison. You can only see what is in your queue and when you are looking at a series there is no way of know what episode you viewed last. But I have to say when viewing a video using the TiVo the video quality is better. I flipped back and forth while watching the same episode of Battlestar Galactica both units connect with HDMI cables and the video quality of the TiVo is just a bit better. Plus I can use my TiVo remote to control the video which is nice. The only other downside of the TiVo is the cost. You either have to pay quite a bit up front for the Lifetime service or you have to pay $20 a month. The price and the limited Netflix interface are the only reason I give it 4 instead of 5 stars.

Worth getting for both Cable & Antenna customers, pays for itself after 2y
I bought a Tivo Premier and hooked it up to an antenna as a replacement for my TimeWarner Cable that ended up costing WAY to much. I bought the Tivo lifetime subscription (break even in 2y compared to the monthly fee) and absolutely love it. I don't use one of the main features of Tivo, recommendations - so can't comment on that. I know what I want to watch and have therefore turned this feature off. Navigation is zippy and fast, not clunky at all. You can remove channels you don't watch too, which I find very useful (couldn't do that with TimeWarner). I can also transfer movies to and from the Tivo box with (pyTivoX and Toast 11). I removed one star because Amazon Prime is NOT supported, only Amazon Instant Video, so if you are an Amazon Prime customer, you CANNOT watch Amazon Prime, Free ... TIVO Premier is worth the upgrade
I have been a TIVO owner for several years now. After starting with the series 2, and then moving up to the series 3; I had been pretty happy. I needed another TIVO and found that finding another series 3 was harder than I expected and reluctantly decided to buy the new series 4 (the Premier). I have been pleasantly surprised with how much I like this new version already. On screen picture available while in the TIVO menus, also the display of disk storage and newer interface impressed me more than I was expecting. I found that I did still have the dual tuning with only one multi-stream card, while I have been paying monthly for two from cable provider on series 3. Also, the ability to interface with the TiVo and schedule a recording with my smart phone via TIVO mobile app. on my android ... I have been a TIVO owner for several years now. The unit comes with the HDMI as well as Ethernet cables and was very easy to set up. The remote that comes with it is really nice too. I opted to buy the TIVO slide remote and if you add this to the Premier, you will love it, trust me. If you like watching YouTube videos and browsing video on demand when you can type in letters from the mini keyboard are very neat too. I really have only one fault that I find irritating; the TiVo remote control application for my Droid X, will not work with the new series 4. It is not a problem with the TIVO, just not yet supported by the developer. I don't want to bash the cable company's equipment, so let’s just say, if you ever considered owning your own equipment, and prefer the best deal- go for this one. If you find that you are one of those who don't like it, you can always sell it on eBay and get your money back, as long as you don't do anything to lessen its value. (If you hack your TIVO box, good luck getting them to support you). When I did have occasions to learn about the new features, this unit already has quick videos stored for you to quickly learn how to use it. Set up was really easy, although I strongly recommend hardwire connection to high speed internet connection. If you want to have the extra capacity, I found that the external drive that TIVO recommends, available at local box store (Best Buy) provided me with plenty of storage and costs less than buying the extra capacity version. So far, it has been running great. No problems or disappointments. I decided to buy another one for the bedroom after 3 weeks of use. If you have multiple TIVOs on your home network, you can enjoy recording shows on one box, and copyright permitting, watch from another TIVO. (Guys, if you have a show you are watching and get kicked off the TV, like when my family decides to watch something I have no interest in, the easy solution is to let TIVO record your show and watch it later or even from another one in the other room if you have two of them). When you look at the cost of ownership, buying your own TIVO really can be the best financial option.
