I know the technology in this phone is 2 years old,but for the [price for the hardware I think its a steal.A very fast quad core with 2 gigs of ram 32 gigs rom very nice screen color saturation is great. I do like the size also fits just right in my hand and I have become a pretty good thumb typer..lol 4.7 inch screen. I have several tablets and a couple phones and I have to say the Bluetooth sound out of this phone is better than my Samsung note and my asus tablet. The silk OS on the phone is a learning curve in it self but I don't mind learning new things. The camera takes better low light pics than my canon camera . ANd like all decent phones it has plenty of picture software to make it come out right. This is a att phone and it responds very fast with the 4g lte .The Bluetooth radio renders stereo better than my Sammy note it really is great. It does have NFC and mira cast and a gyro for VR programs. If you see this phone for the price I paid for It ($90)snatch it up. ANd that is for a brand new never been used phone. I see in forums where this phone is real easy to jail break and use android I haven't done that yet and I may not because I still have a great android phone. BTW if you missed it you can't add a sd, all though it does have 32 gigs of rom. Nice phone and you can't go wrong with the price. Hope this helps some one.Read full review

You could not PAY ME to have used stock FireOS on this phone for more than a day. It reminded of using crappy Windows Mobile from 10 years ago. Actually, it might have been worse? Anyway, nothing about it is intuitive, Amazon's app market is lacking, and their walled-garden-ecosystem seriously limits the appeal of using their, otherwise good, hardware. So I followed the guide on the reddit firephone subreddit, and now I have a wonderful, open, Android experience again. Will it last forever? Will it crash and burn? Who knows! But now that's it's unlocked, I'm seriously enjoying this phone as my daily driver. The only things I can't get to work on it is HDR mode on the camera, a barcode reading app, and Netflix. Everything else flies. And because of the size and design, it's like getting a great iPhone running Android.Read full review

I wish I had known a few more things about the Amazon Fir Phone before I made my purchase. This is no reflection on the person who sold it to me. He did a great job but there are things about the phone that you probably have to have one for awhile to find them out. First the phone logo stays on the screen way to long...this probably uses a lot of your battery over time. Secondly, I thought because Amazon Fire was an Android based phone that I could get anyone's Android Apps. Not So! You can only get Apps from the Amazon App Store. Normally this would be ok but Amazon doesn't have some Apps you might want but the Google Play App Store might have them. The problem is bad since the Amazon Fire can't download ANY APPS from any App Store other than Amazon Fire Store. I had one such App Request that Google Play had in their store but it wouldn't let me download it. I made a request of Amazon Fire to get that App but I feel it will probably never be acted on. It is an App that allows me to use my Amazon Fire through the Radio in my car. My car is a 15 year old model and the App I needed was designed to work with my Car's Radio. Google Play has that App but Amazon Fire doesn't and probably never will even though I made a request to Amazon Fire to get this app. Another thing. The Phones Camera needs a better Zoom. The phone runs too much in the background which eat a lot of battery. There are other things also. But the phone isn't as user friendly as I would like it to be. And there you have it.Read full review

Worth a hundred dollars; but Amazon will do well to refrain from trotting out successors with their "forked" version of Android. It's a real shame Amazon yanked the year of Prime that used to come with this phone. Go to Amazon's site to see Jason Singleton's comments on how to install Google Play; install the files in order, rebooting after each apk is run; then from the Google Play Store get Home Switcher; and perhaps Google Now, if you want "OK Google" voice capability. Jason's linked page has instructions. It's a decent phone with one of the brightest screens around, if you often use the phone outside. Turn off the "dynamic perspective" in the phone's accessibility settings to save battery life. You'll have a decent phone that will occasionally irritate you as you swipe repeatedly from the bottom of the screen to go back (it lacks any such button - either physical or on-screen); but all in all, it's worth the salvage prices from the companies that bought the phones Amazon abruptly dumped in September of 2015. In a couple of years I'm sure I'll be ready to move on to something with the latest version of Android; and I don't expect Amazon to actively push too many Fire OS updates for this phone.Read full review

I am currently using this phone as a backup to my iPhone 5c (which, unfortunately decided to lose GPS capabilities and Wi-Fi connectivity). Although this phone is faster, larger, and has a better battery life, I think the fact that Amazon denies immediate access to the Google Play store is quite cumbersome. I cannot use Snapchat, Blackboard Learn, and countless other apps accessible on iOS and Google Play. However, for the deal that I received from eBay is highly worth the value. Pros: Decent camera Easy UI Strong(er) battery life Interesting retrospective design Cons: Amazon Appstore Sideloading Google Play to download apps is quite annoying Carousel glitches

It is fast...it is beautiful. Great to have instant cloud access with photos. Where it falls short is lack of apps that you were using before on your android and iPhone...no Shopkick, no Target cartwheel, no Starbucks?! So, I carry my old Android...or iPad. Fire phone...just like a new beau...seems perfect but then when you find out the quirks, you just have to decide if it is a breaking point.

This is not an iPhone, but if you manage your expectations, you get a fantastic deal on a fairly decent device. The pros: battery life is great, screen looks fantastic, and if you are an Amazon Prime subscriber, you get a fair amount of perks. The not-so-good: The device feels big, heavy and overall unpolished. From the interface to the hardware itself, it almost feels as it had been rushed through the development stages. Too bad Amazon won't be making an updated version of these. A 2.0 model might have actually been a much more competitive device. One last thing, you only get apps from the Amazon App store. They have a fair selection, but not every single Android app. For instance, you won't be able to control your Nest thermostat from this phone. Not a huge deal, but buyer be aware.

I needed a phone to replace my LG G2 which was having battery issues for the 3rd time. Since it was no longer in warranty, I was stuck waiting until November to replace it. That is until this extraordinary deal came along on Amazon's Kindle Fire phone! 1) Unlocked! This meant that I didn't have to sign a new contract to get the deal price on this phone. 2) Came with 1 FREE year of Amazon Prime! We already get Amazon Prime every year, and since the free year that comes with this phone stacks onto your current membership, it meant that in reality I was paying $39 for a brand new smartphone since I was going to be paying that $99 Prime membership fee anyways. This way, I got something out of it! 3) Considering the price of the phone, even without the free year of Amazon Prime and the 2-day shipping, free streaming movies, music, audio books, and kindle books I can get with Prime, this smartphone is an INCREDIBLE deal! As for the phone itself, I'm really digging it. Yes, I didn't give it a full 5-stars in both Features, and Ease of Use, but there are two reasons why I did so. 1) The screen is smallish by todays standards, although this may be a plus for you if you think phones have been getting too big lately. The size of the Amazon Fire Phone is pretty much exactly that of the iPhone 5, long and thin, but thicker and a bit heavier. It fits well in my hand and feels very solid and well constructed, but I do miss the extra screen real estate from my old LG. If Amazon releases a Fire Phone 2, I hope that it will be a larger, thinner, and lighter phone. 2) Lack of the Google Play Store out of the box. Yes, I get that Amazon is trying to tie us into their own ecosystem, and that would be fine but for one thing... The Amazon App Store doesn't have a lot of the apps that I used on a daily basis, and the ones it does have tend to lag behind their Play Store counterparts in version numbers. They don't get updated as often or as fast. Amazon either needs to fix this issue and let a LOT more apps in and speed up their updating process so a developer can push an update to both the Google Play Store AND the Amazon App Store at the same time, or allow its users to easily add the Google Play Store to their Fire Phones. Now, I mentioned a lack of the Google Play Store out of the box. It is indeed possible, if you take the time to search the Internet and dig around on the XDA forums, to side load most apps from the Google Play Store if you have their APK's, and even side load the Google Play Store itself onto your Amazon Fire Phone! The phone can now be rooted, and in fact, Cyanogen is actively developing a replacement (CM11) ROM for the Fire Phone which will eventually turn it into a stock Android smartphone, albeit the special 4 front facing cameras that the Fire Phone has to sort of simulate a 3D interface almost certainly won't be supported. At least not at first. Maybe someone will hack those too, but don't count on it. All of the above takes work and time, as well as a some technical knowledge, but that can be attained by reading a good bit BEFORE you just wade in and start messing with things. If all of that sounds too daunting for you, and it honestly shouldn't, you can just live with the Amazon App Store and the stock Amazon UI. The UI is very snappy and responsive. It's different than stock Android, and it's taking me some getting used to. Like the tilts and twists you can do with the phone to bring special menus, but I like itRead full review
My Apple 6 decided to go for a swim. Result= no actual home button (resorted to virtual buton, dead earphone mandating headset/earbuds, speaker only works for Tel calls. After finding that least pricey fix was by Apple at $299, I looked for a decent android device under $100 . The Fire met ALL of my needs and wants, save for not being an iPhone6. It's great - good battery life, good sound, greattach earbuds, ALL OF THE QUALITY AND FUNCTIONALITY of a much more expensive Android phone.. Only hitch is battery gets warm to touch (thru case).

Just having a central key down makes good use uncomfortable for virtually all actions. Incredibly, Facebook is possible is a Fire Tablet, but the Fire Phone NO, at least as is normal in any other team. You can note use Netflix, even though they put the logo on the ad. You can not maintain the fixed capital if desired. . When connected via Bluetooth to the car, you do not hear the person who supposedly should say "What do you want to do" when you want to call, and you have to guess when the person or the phone which called asking. Everything is silent. Nor could use several applications that I use (used) a lot, it is impossible to do, not being supported, which is common: it is incompatible with many things in common use. Something good: long battery life, which I hope will not be for many things that unload, can not be used. If something invented works, do not get to invent something else, make like the other phones and use the best of each, rather than innovate and complicate everything. I really think that you must eliminate this phone until it can do the same of all other phones do, or better.Read full review
